Digging Fever 🤑
———————————————————————————————
Absolutely tweaking sitting in the office right now knowing the dirt is begging to be shaped. It’s been too long since we have gotten some good rain. I’m hopping to really prioritize digging this season and building as much as I possibly can.
These are some photos of the extension to main line I worked on last winter that I never got around to posting. This section turned out so fast and flowy, it feels like you are on a roller coaster. Absolute blast to ride.
Get out a dig folks!

Quick Slap and Pack ⏱️
———————————————————————————————
Been a few years since the step up landing saw some love. I was short on time so I slapped this one together pretty quick without getting it as polished up as I would have liked to. Still feels nice to have this landing cleaned up, been wanting to get this done for a while now. Years of rain pushed dirt into the belly of the landing giving it a more wedged transition. I was able to dig the belly out a bit to give the landing a better arc for a smoother landing and to help maintain speed into the next jump. Same height and roughly the same steepness, just more dialed in. by @throwinshovelz

Winter Project ❄️
———————————————————————————————
Post college/ full time job life + winter time change ain’t ideal for digging. Wasn’t able to really make it to the Valley jumps or other trails I wanted to work on with the amount of light I had to work with these last few months. Therefore I decided to build this after work session jump near my job to enjoy during the shorter winter days. Of course I didn’t finish it though until the daylight savings time change 😑😂. I’m pretty sure I started building this jump some time back in January, it was a slow process of putting about an hour worth of work in maybe once or twice a week, with a few weeks taken off to go fix up some other local trails near me. Nothing too exciting to really post (don’t be fooled, even if I’m not posting, just know Throwin Shovelz is still diggin)! Anyways glad to get this project finished, definitely is not my cleanest work but I built it with the mindset of this being a trick jump so I didn’t care too much about the looks of it cause Ik it’s gonna get beat up. That’s why I also added the sand bags to act as a wall to protect the landing from crumpling away on the back side when casing or bailing out of tricks. Got a few test jumps on it yesterday and it goes! Just a few tweaks to the lip and removing a stump near the landing and I think it will be dialed. Thank you all for the support as always, much love! #oneshovelatatime #startswithavision #winterproject #daylightsavings #Tasco #tascostoke #throwinshovelz #mtb #dirtjumper #dirtjumps #socaldirt #builders #bornwithashovelinhand #dirt #dirtlife #trailbuilder #trailbuilding #mtbjumps #socalmtb #freeride #nodignoride #builder #dirtsculpter #stepup #dirtstepup #mtbstepup #throwinshovelz #godmadedirtanddirtdonthurt by @throwinshovelz

Build and Destroy ☄️
———————————————————————————————
Unfortunately I have been to busy recently to go out and get any serious builds going but I found time the other day after work to build up this berm at Durbin’s slalom. Had fun tearing it up 😂. #dualslalom #berms #railingturns #adamisslow #dirt #dirtlife #trailbuilder #trailbuilding #dirtjumps #socaldirt #mtb #dirtjumper #mtbjumps #socalmtb #freeride #nodignoride #builder #dirtsculpter #throwinshovelz #digtherapy #builtforthis #godmadedirtanddirtdonthurt by @throwinshovelz

Dirt Jumps in the HOA 🏡
——————————————————————————————
Meant to post this awhile ago but earlier this summer I got hired to build some backyard dirt jumps for a customer. He had a pool put in his back yard and had the guys excavating the pool drop the dirt in piles around the yard in which he could build some dirt jumps out of. When I got there, there were two tabletops and a pump track scratched in. He gave me free rein to adjust it how I wanted, only requested was to keep them mountain bike style as well as safe for the neighborhood kids to jump. After a couple different alterations I was able to find a way to create a mountain bike jump line on flat ground with pretty mellow landings in which you were still able to carry speed through and jump at trail speed. The Dirt definitely took a bit of learning to get used to, too much water and it was too sticky and too little it would just fall apart. There were also a lot of rocks and pebbles in the dirt so a lot of sifting was in order. I’m happy with how the finally product came out and hopefully the HOA will be too 😂. Watching his son and his buddies get hyped on the jumps and lap them non stop made the 95 degree days in the direct sunlight worth it 😂. #backyarddirtjumps #facelift #takeoff #throwinshovelz #mtb #dirtjumper #bmx #dirtjumps #mountainbikejumps #mtbjumps dirtfeature #dirtsculpter #trailbuilder #socaldirtjumps #socalmtb #sandiegodirtjumps #sandiegomtb #nodignoride #throwinshovelz #freeride #mainline #mtbjumps #dirt #shovel #brotherhoodoftrailbuilders by @throwinshovelz

Makeshift Rappel 🧗
——————————————————————————————
Been meaning to rebuild this thing for awhile now, finally convinced myself to do it. I stacked it a bit taller, added more dirt to the top and carved dirt out of the bottom to make it steeper. I feel like the video doesn’t do this landing justice of how steep, long, and a pain in the ass it is to work on. I decided to bring out my rock climbing harness, a tow rope, my hammock straps and two tie downs to make this sketchy rappel system to help pack in the landing. Shout out to Kevin’s wood drop @kevinsharketti. I’m not sure how many years ago he built it but it can still withstand my fat ass hanging from it. 😂💪🏼⚡️ #facelift #rappel #packinandstackin #rainisagoodthing #herodirt #hurricanehilary #timelapse #gopro #goprohero9 #landing #dirtlanding #throwinshovelz #mtb #dirtjumper #bmx #dirtjumps #dirtfeature #dirtsculpter #trailbuilder #socaldirtjumps #socalmtb #sandiegodirtjumps #sandiegomtb #nodignoride #throwinshovelz #freeride #mainline #mtbjumps #dirt #shovel #brotherhoodoftrailbuilders by @throwinshovelz

Face Lift 👄
——————————————————————————————
Got the lip of the first hip buttered up today. I did some adjustments and made it a hair taller and a little bit steeper to give a little more pop. This spring I put a lot of work into the upper part of main line and I never really posted any of it. I’m hoping to get some old photos I have in my camera roll posted soon so you guys can see how it turned out. Super glad I made sure to get the top jumps tarped tho, this last rain definitely did some damage but luckily those jumps are safe. Got some more stuff in the works! #facelift #takeoff #herodirt #hurricanehilary #hipjump #dirthip #tweakedtotheright #throwinshovelz #mtb #dirtjumper #bmx #dirtjumps #dirtfeature #dirtsculpter #trailbuilder #socaldirtjumps #socalmtb #sandiegodirtjumps #sandiegomtb #nodignoride #throwinshovelz #freeride #mainline #mtbjumps #dirt #shovel #brotherhoodoftrailbuilders by @throwinshovelz

VALLEY OF THE PINES 🌲
——————————————————————————————
Lugged some water into pine valley last weekend and gave this old rutted out lip some love. Such a dope and legendary spot. Wish it was closer so I could put in more work here. I love this style of riding.

Tweaked to the Right 📐
——————————————————————————————
Here is the take off for the hip jump. Right now both the lip and the landing are a bit more mellow then I would like them to be, but for now I’m just gonna leave it as is and continue finishing the rest of the line. Maybe eventually if I feel the desire to I’ll steepen them out and stack them up a bit. There is also a little roller I built that you can see in the third picture that leads into the the take off. Nothing special so I don’t really feel like making a post on it but helps to generate and mediate speed. #hipjump #dirthip #tweakedtotheright #throwinshovelz #mtb #dirtjumper #bmx #dirtjumps #dirtfeature #dirtsculpter #trailbuilder #socaldirtjumps #socalmtb #sandiegodirtjumps #sandiegomtb #nodignoride #throwinshovelz #freeride #mainline #mtbjumps #dirt #shovel #brotherhoodoftrailbuilders by @throwinshovelz

Picking up where I left off 🧹
———————————————————————————————
I had a few issues arise in the recent months that lead to me needing to take a step back from the spot for awhile. This place has been a safe space and a home to me for a bit now so it was definitely hard to be away from. I’m happy to say tho I’m back and hoping things continue going back to normal. I am so grateful for bikes, dirt, and the community it creates. Currently been changing up the old caterpillar at the start of main and changing it into two separate doubles to add more jumps to the line. Here is the landing of the first hip I’ve been building. Could use to be a bit steeper but that will be a modification for another time. #throwinshovelz #mtb #dirtjumps #trailbuilder #trailbuilding #hip #hipjump #dirtjump #dirtjumper #socalmtb #socaldirt #rainisagoodthing #digging #digger #bornwithashovelinhand #dirtsculptures by @throwinshovelz

Cleans Up Nice 👔
———————————————————————————————
Finally got around to fixing up this landing about a month ago, as well as finally got around to posting about it 😂😬. Been wanting to fix the landing to the step-up on main line for quite some time now. Widened it a bit, squared it off, and added more dirt to the belly of the landing while still trying to keep it a steepish landing. The goal was to create a better transition from this landing to the wood ramp in hopes for a more efficient pump through the flat bottom. It’s hard to tell but I moved a lot of dirt to beef up this landing. Stoked on how it looks, yet unfortunately due to car troubles and work I have yet to be able to ride it. Can’t wait to try it for myself tho soon. #upgrades #dirt #dirtlife #trailbuilder #trailbuilding #dirtjumps #socaldirt #mtb #dirtjumper #mtbjumps #socalmtb #freeride #nodignoride #builder #dirtsculpter #stepup #dirtstepup #mtbstepup #throwinshovelz #godmadedirtanddirtdonthurt by @throwinshovelz

Dig Therapy 🧘🏻‍♂️
———————————————————————————
There is a lot going on recently but it has been nice to find some time to escape and be able to dig back in my home dirt again. Digging has always been a very therapeutic process for me, even as a little kid it helped me get through a lot of hard times and emotions. Building is physically demanding as well mentally. It helps me to clear my head and focus on the task at hand while also being a great creative outlet. It is truly some of the best therapy in my opinion. Anyways, I’m happy we were able to finally get some rain so I could mop up this landing that I have been want to fix up for awhile now. Excited to put some tires on it soon! #laboroflove #dirttherapy #diggingtherapy #rainisagoodthing #herodirt #trailbuilding #trailbuilder #mtb #dirtjumps #dirtjumper #downhill #mtbjumps #freeride #socalmtb #socaldirt #nodignoride #dirtsculpter #throwinshovelz by @throwinshovelz
