Singapore x Hong Kong Rock Music Exchange

Thunder Rock School is proud to present Rock The Straits, our first-ever international rock music exchange.

On 23rd May, we’ll be hosting 2 bands from Hong Kong music school AMUSIX, alongside 4 of our own Thunder Rock School bands, for an afternoon of live music, friendship, and proper rock energy.

Cheers to my current favourite band in the making! The past 3 months has been extremely eventful with you guys in the studios; working out the parts, pushing you guys out of your comfort zones and just having a great time altogether. When I saw all the pieces coming together on show day, it just filled me with so much pride. You fulfilled all the ideas that @alif and I suggested, and absolutely owned them! But my ultimate favourite takeaway was to witness the camaraderie you guys built together, you have so much care for each other, it was infectious! You guys are such champions! I hope that you will do something more than just the thunder15 show itself, can’t wait to see it happen! - @lj_lee

Aside from the effort the members of FTTF have put in, they have shown me the value of compromise and how the music can come together beautifully when we work to one another’s strengths while supporting and encouraging one another through our struggles. The sense of personal responsibility and accountability that everyone took on for their respective roles was strong and clear. They put up a performance they should be really proud of. I hope they can always look back to this show and be inspired by what they had managed to achieve. Thank you for allowing me the honour of being your band master, Si Yi, Josh, Jerald, Xiao Ting, Nat and Florence. Love you all! - Joy

In such a short time, 4 To The Floor took on 4 challenging songs, juggling work, life, and countless rehearsals, yet never lost heart.
Every note, every rhythm, every moment on stage was a testament to their dedication, growth, and love for music.

This was my first time band mastering, with Joy guiding me, and what an incredible journey it’s been.
Watching these six individuals come together and shine as a band was humbling, inspiring, and unforgettable.

Three things make me proud of this band: their helpfulness, enthusiasm, and commitment. They never hesitate to guide each other whenever someone isn’t sure about a part. Their enthusiasm shows in their willingness to sing along and step up to front the band alongside the lead singer. What stands out the most is their commitment. Over the last few rehearsals, I’ve seen tremendous growth as they worked hard to learn and refine the final two songs. Really proud of this team. - @yazeid.rahman

To Darrynne, Noura, Rochelle, Faith, Alex, Pat, Daniel and Lucas, I am so proud of each and every one of you. Through these 3 months, I know you all had your own battles to fight; D, to sing louder, Noura to come in at the right timing for Back in Black, Rochelle to play notes that are crazier than what was expected of you, Faith to play songs that you are totally unfamiliar with, Alex and Pat to nail your solos, Daniel to get that bridge in the song “Thunder” and Lucas, to play those 16th notes in “Viva la Vida”. But you all persevered on, kept pushing yourselves and what awesome results did we get!! We saw ourselves disagreeing a lot with one another during our first meeting (hence the name Half n 3/4s cos we couldn’t agree on stuff) but by show day you kids came together and played so cohesively and kicked butt!! I look forward to see you all grow some more in music and perform again on the big stage. - @666lucylu

I would like to begin with how proud I am with the young musicians in Half n' 3/4. I'm honored to have been part of their journey, leading to their splendid performance on 14 Feb. Watching them grow as musicians, slowly discovering and understanding their individual roles as instrumentalists within a music group like this, it brought me great joy interacting and helping them along their musical paths. To see them slowly coming out of their shells and working so hard together as a group, I cannot describe how much prouder I am of them and I am thankful to have had this opportunity to be a part of their musical adventure. It was a pleasure guiding you guys through this journey. I can see hard work, commitment, friendship, and energy among all of you.
Seeing you all performing on stage makes me proud, but the most heartfelt moment was when you guys did a pre-show run-through in the dressing room. That was commitment and passion to the core.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been your guide through this huge concert. I hope what I've imparted about the musical process will carry over to your future endeavours.

I saw commendable progress from each of you beyond technical musicianship: Each of you played to one another's strengths; stepped up without hesitation to any and all challenges, and put in the hours to play an incredible set together.
