I’ve always loved finding takedowns and forgotten pairs from different silhouettes, and the Nike Air Way Up is one that has always stood out to me. 👟

Technically, the Way Up is a takedown of the Air Penny 1. But I don’t think that tells the whole story.

In the mid ’90s, this shoe was everywhere on the court. We saw it in college with Marcus Camby, Stephon Marbury and Allen Iverson, and in the NBA with Reggie Miller, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, just to name a few.

I’m not saying one is better than the other. I’m talking about exposure. From what I remember, the Way Up had a ton of on-court presence. I saw it all the time and always wanted a pair.

A few weeks back during a live, @thurgoodcam and @professor_skoola brought up an interesting point. “We’re always asking Nike to bring back forgotten silhouettes, including takedowns”, but their feeling was that Nike isn’t really going to bring takedowns back. As far as they can remember, the Air Way Up is the one exception. I believe they are right.

That got me thinking: Can you name another Nike takedown that has ever been retro’d?

I couldn’t.

It may have been a takedown of the Penny 1, but its presence on the court in the ’90s made it feel like so much more than that.

I always wanted a pair back then. Funny how some of those old wants never really go away. Thanks for the retro, Nike. 🙌

Before I found my path in music, I used to sketch sneakers and dream about designing them. That love for sneakers never left me.

My boy @terrancekeller invited me out to @kickingit while he was in San Antonio with the homie @thurgoodcam and his @ki.socialhour.bar podcast. They’re both well known in Texas sneaker culture, and it was cool to see them bring local collectors together to talk about the shoes that shaped us.

There were some incredibly rare pairs and special collections on the table, including shoes that took us right back to our childhood. But what I enjoyed most was hearing the stories behind them and seeing people form connections over a shared passion.

I appreciate Terrance for inviting me and Cam I appreciate what you put together, shout out to the guests I got to connect with. Music became my career, but sneaker culture will always be part of my story.

Should @nikebasketball bring em back?

The Nike Jet Flight has a cult following! This shoe retailed for just $90 back in the year 2001, the shoe featured a forefoot zoom air unit, heel vis air, TPU shank and a mid-foot strap.

Designed by the legendary @aaron.ac.cooper , in a post on his Instagram account Aaron discussed the purpose of this shoe: “We wanted to keep this shoe accessible for many, which is why we changed to “vis air” instead of Max. We felt like it would be a great entry into the game... and after all, our primary objective was to grow the culture of the game”.

I firmly believe this shoe is due for a retro and that it would perform exceptionally well even 25 years later. Now with all that being said, is it time that we see a retro of the Nike Jet Flight ✈️‼️
