This is 49. What started as a very rough day that included losing and then finding my phone (thankfully I wore my watch today so it alerted me it was gone!) ended really nicely. I headed up to the Acropolis and decided that I didn’t need to go to the summit with the *massive* crowds to experience it. I’m at peace with this.

So instead I let the Sightseeing Bus drive me around and show me places, and I stopped off at a couple market and historical squares.

I met some cats. I wish I met more.

I returned to the artisan shops to buy the handmade fused glass evil eye ward instead of getting the touristy crap. This was my birthday present aside from these last couple days at all.

I found a local grocery store where I bought Greek Thyme honey, some treats, and the olives the locals buy instead of the tourist ones. I stopped at a bakery for a cheap lunch that turned out to be a phyllo pie stuffed with Mac & cheese and ham?? Not mad at it but not what I was expecting.

After shopping I grabbed a souvlaki wrap to take home for my dinner.

I’m spending the evening finishing the epilogue of my novel and starting the final round of edits. Somewhere in between I’ll be packing up for a 6am trip to the airport.

I’m so glad I chose to stay (and grateful for the help that got me here). I miss home and I’m ready to say goodbye.

Today there wasn’t a lot, but I met my first Athens street cats at dinner, and later looked out at the Acropolis from the hotel bar.

As for now, sure I’m up near midnight finishing a deck for tomorrow but there’s a really great punk band playing a venue next to the hotel and I’m probably the only person happy about it. I’ve got my room windows open listening to them bang out Anything Anything by Dramarama and I’m kind of in my happy place. by @tiarala

Supreme pizza baked penne pasta for -#gamenightdinner! This is loaded with Italian sausage, pepperoni, roasted mushrooms, garlic, and veggies in a very cheesy tomato sauce.

We’ve just begun our third season of #magetheawakening 2nd edition and it feels good to be back with these characters! It’s also nice to be #cookingforfriends again. We made a peach & apricot cobbler for dessert. #whatsfordinner by @tiarala

DragonCon Saturday: a very, very long day. A lines-lines-lines kind of day, but it was worth it.

We browsed the Art Show floor and supported a couple indie artists, then after some costume peeping A dropped me off in line for the Resident Alien panel, where @n3crokitty (thx for the panel pic!) joined me for lots of laughs. We saw some incredible costumes, including @hammerhand_workshop ‘s incredible Mr. Ring-a-Ding from Doctor Who, and a few more pictured here.

Later we went to the Nerd Nite/Solve for X show and it was honestly the best in years! Talks by the Science Track Scientists included Scientifically Accurate Dinobots, and the Science of the Fast & the Furious, in which the Mohawk guy from JPL contributed his thoughts on FAST9. (e.g. Actually engineering the space-bound Fiero to drive like with normal car controls makes the most sense if it’s a driver you’re sending into space).

There was also so much friendshipping along the way. I love this Con so much. by @tiarala

DragonCon Friday’s highlight was when Lynette and I led Matt & Adrian around to showcase their amazing #anginedepoitrine costumes! This will require a little exposition.

First, you must understand that Matt, aka @hammerhand_workshop, is a master costumer. His screen-accurate creations have won Best In Show awards at major costume conventions across the country, INCLUDING DRAGONCON, one of the most elite costuming stages out there.

So when he told Adrian about his idea to portray French-Canadian avant-garde band Angine de Poitrine, and offered to do the entire build, well, A didn’t hesitate.

Y’ALL. I need you to understand how much joy these two brought to people. It’s definitely a niche costume but for hours there was a steady stream of delighted people rushing to take their pictures, or to have their pictures taken with the guys. Every time we were in transit people made the signature triangle-hands at them in solidarity and appreciation. It was amazing! I’ll share a link to the band’s music in the FB comments.

Even @_johnny_health_ , from one of our favorite bands, HEALTH, recognized them and stopped by. It was wild.

We also spent a good amount of time costume-peeping (photo dump to come), took on the Science Is Gross panel on the Science Track, which did not disappoint (@punk_entomology’s content is going to give me nightmares, so WELL-DONE!). Plus we got in some great friendshipping and cant wait to do it again on Saturday! by @tiarala

I haven’t dressed up for a goth show since the Adepticon dance party with @itsgothdad spinning in Milwaukee, but DragonCon is pretty motivating! Also, instead of hanging in the hotel room, dressing up coaxed me out the door to see @agonalgasps! Dusty’s raw energy is always so powerful and he never fails to make me want to fuck shit up. #guillotinetime #antifascista

I was thrilled to dance to a few tracks, including some classic Vision Video, and it was just great to see Dusty again in his element. by @tiarala

Proof of life, #dragoncon2026 Thursday edition. In which curling my hair is a pain in the ass but I’m getting better at it and it’s occasionally worth it.

Awaiting the arrival of the rest of our party and enjoying a very frugal DC this year! Tonight’s plans include DC Wrestling and the @agonalgasps concert late tonight (the new project of @itsgothdad of Vision Video). Maybe heading off to costume-watch in awhile! Happy homecoming, nerds! by @tiarala

Pozole with kale & mushrooms.

Awhile back we made pozole from scratch. We went to the Mexican market, the butcher shop, spent all weekend making it.

Tonight’s meal was not that. But it was almost frustrating how close it was considering I just dumped everything in the Instant Pot with an @ezbombsfood pozole bomb and not much else. The flavor was rich and spot on and seasoned everything beautifully #gamenightdinner was a hell of a crowd pleaser for sure! Next time I’d put the hominy in later because it lost a lot of texture in the pressure cooker.
