This is a BIG shout out to Good Samaritans, Karl & Marlo who saved my bacon at FLL last Sunday night! Thank you for helping a frazzled fellow traveler!!!
JetBlue promptly put me on a flight to Ft Lauderdale when my flight to Orlando from Syracuse was delayed & I missed the last Brightline train home. After landing, Marlo offered me a ride to Juno Beach as it was on their way home. I sure hope I can return their favor as well as pay it forward!
To celebrate the kindness of strangers, I’m posting photos of a fabulous mum (gift from my friend Eve) & my bonsai in training: green island ficus, Vietnamese bluebell & dwarf powderpuff getting ready to bloom.

What happened here? Who mixed Bayeux bobbins with Midlands on the same pillow? 😬 As luck would have it, I got a seat in Sasha Baskin’s class, Portraits in Two-Toned Tulle & I’m on the hunt for 80-100 matching bobbins. So—I cannabilized some long dormant projects to free up my Bayeux. I’m now winding Venne Colcoton 70/2 on 100 bobbins plus extra bobbins for a contrasting edge & Lizbeth 80 for gimp. Whew—I should be able to arrive at Ithaca Lace Days organized & ready to roll. For my high contrast black & white photo, I’m taking an x-ray photo of a parrot tulip by Bryan Whitney. I was first inspired when I saw his work in a magazine in 2015. I tried to make a lace adaptation then but it didn’t work out so this will be my second attempt. I made several positive & negative copies that I reduced to see what the teacher says. Additional examples of Mr Whitney’s work are at

Be still my heart! Two Veuve Clicquot glasses arrived from Japan, beautifully boxed & double packed. We first saw these glasses in Amiens at Le Lobby, a tiny restaurant on the river. I’m so glad someone special placed the order with PukaPuka7.

Love my gym—LA Fitness, Donald Ross. Always gorgeous bouquets at the front desk but today they outdid themselves! Hydrangeas, delphinium, carnations, roses & star gazer lilies. OMG—a feast for the eyes & nose before hitting the yoga mat in Deangelo’s class!

Just a little nosh at Rembar at the Bluffs. Bresaola with arugula, Sweety Drops, Parmesan crumbles, EVOO & lemon. Foie gras stacks served with fig, apple & onion chutney on brioche. Castelvetrano olives served with more Sweety Drops. It was an adventure meeting other patrons & their dogs. Two British chocolate labs were the stars of the evening.

Beacon at sunset in Jupiter. Seared yellowfin tuna with tomatoes, olives & capers. Marinated swordfish with charred broccolini, chimichurri & white sweet potatoes. Chocolate Basque cheesecake for dessert with a flirty folded chocolate crepe on top! Totally delicious & decadent. If you love pink bubbles, they serve Laurent-Perrier brut rose! As the sun went down over the Jupiter inlet, the Jupiter Lighthouse began to shine. It’s a bit of an adventure finding this restaurant with GPS. Basically it’s near the NW corner of A1A & Love St, nestled among other inlet restaurants. The entrance is on the east side of the building, below Topside, a sister restaurant on the upper level. We’ll try seating at the “kitchen counter”next time we visit.

A lovely evening at Cafe Sole at the Bluffs on US1 in Jupiter. Carpaccio di Manza served with capers, EVOO drizzle & lemon spritz. Red beet & hearts of palm salad with spinach & candied pecans. My husband loved his scallops & risotto but neglected to take a photo. We were stuffed so their yummy chocolate mousse cake was to-go! The young host is very welcoming & managed to efficiently seat, serve & check up on each table. We also enjoyed meeting the owner when he poured our wine. Charming local spot. We’ll be back!

And then there’s Muskie Jake’s in Gananoque, ONT! Over both bridges & I-81 parkway, we arrived at the Canadian border. Of course the agent wanted to know the purpose of our visit. He raised his eyebrow when we said we were coming for lunch. Our first visit to MJ’s was at least 20 years ago when we fished for muskellunge on the last two days of muskie season in December. Dressed in a Coast Guard suit, I looked like Bib, the Michelin man with a bad sunburn. Snow was above my knees & our guide had to shovel the ramp to put in the boat. I caught a little muskie. My husband caught bigger ones. But where to have dinner? Our guide recommended MJ’s. It is Mecca for every muskie fisherman because the 1988 Canadian/Ontario record of 65lbs+ is hanging on the wall. This time we sat outside & noshed on shrimp cocktail Canadian-style with a tall ship in the distance & the City Tour boat coming/going nearby. This part of Gananoque has many older homes & most are well maintained & beautifully landscaped. Along the parkway, there are outcroppings of pink/rose/salmon granite, caused by high concentrations of potassium feldspar.

A little side trip to Wellesley Island in the middle of the St Lawrence! Two bridges & a parkway, built in 1937, connect the US with Canada. The Thousand Islands Park on Wellesley started in 1875 as a Methodist Church camp & turned into a Victorian summer community. A large number of wooden houses are painted multiple colors, similar to the “painted ladies” in San Francisco & the entire community seems like a petite version of Chautauqua Institute. There is a vintage hotel, waterfront pavilion, open green area with stunning views of the St Lawrence & a nifty multi-purpose building that houses The Guzzle, a come-as-you-are eatery for light bites & ice cream. Moose tracks ice cream topped off our lunch & we laughed at how the wooden spoons brought back childhood memories. The post office is across the street. Just about every house is surrounded by flowers & tall trees. What a treasure, worth a visit!

What can I say? We had so much fun at Harbor House Clayton, we went back for more! Sesame grilled Ahi tuna served with forbidden rice, baby bok choy & soy ginger reduction. The fresh orchid was a lovely touch at the end of the long plate. Chicken Milanese was absolutely the most tender & delicious we’ve ever eaten. It arrived with balsamic arugula, roasted red peppers, red onion, grape tomatoes, English cucumber, feta & grilled lemon. Meals start with artisanal bread, a fabulous tapenade, house made spread & whipped butter. House made chocolate covered cherries served with whipped cream & chocolate drizzle Mignardises were a sweet ending as the sun went down.

Harbor House Clayton offers a most delightful outdoor dining experience. Lobster/ricotta ravioli is served with a fresh lobster claw, roasted red peppers, spinach & saffron prosecco crème sauce. Grilled miso salmon was accompanied by baby bok choy, asparagus & wild mushrooms. Gorgeous landscaping surrounds five large pergolas & an oblong fire pit. It’s a beautiful place to sip champagne at sunset.
