Joining Larisa @stitchingnotes and Irina @nordiccrafter for Thursday's Sip Tea and EPP. Today's cup is Republic of Tea's AcΜ§aí Green, and this week's book is the latter half of Terry Pratchett's "Interesting Times." β˜•οΈπŸ“š

This past week I decided to lay out the framed Japanese taupe hexies and commit to a joining plan. I numbered the columns and rows with more leftover moving stickers, and here we go! This will likely be the last large piece I stitch together before moving back into our post-renovation home – we'll see how far I get with it. I still have a few small side projects, but this will be the main one before the move. Happy stitching, everyone! πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅

It's Thursday, and I'm joining Irina @nordiccrafter and Larisa @stitchingnotes for Sip Tea & EPP. Today's cup is turmeric chai, and this week's listen is Terry Pratchett's Interesting Times. πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅πŸ“š

This past week I finished the three hexie coasters with tiny whip stitches along the outer edges. I went ahead and machine stitched all the remaining joins to emphasize the EPP shapes. At some point I'll give them a hand wash and a quick trip through the dryer to bring out their quilty goodness (Insul-Bright batting doesn't shrink very much and retains its structure pretty well, but it does soften a little with washing). Happy stitching, everyone! ❀️

Joining Irina @nordiccrafter and Larisa @stitchingnotes for Thursday's Sip Tea & EPP. Today's cup is matcha latte, and this week's listen is Terry Pratchett's Sourcery. πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅πŸ“š

I ordered a little more dusty mauve shot cotton for the hexie quilt border, and this week I'll be working with these hexie coasters again. I'm starting with taupe Isacord in the needle and chocolate on the bobbin, stitching in the ditch around the central hexie and up the first joining seams. From there I may machine stitch the top joins and leave a 1/4" seam allowance for hand stitching around the rim. Or stop short of the top joins, hand stitch the rim, then go back and machine stitch up to the rim. Or something else entirely. πŸ˜„ I can and do follow patterns, but honestly I make a great deal of this up as I go along. πŸͺ‘🧡

It's Thursday, so I'm joining Irina @nordiccrafter and Larisa @stitchingnotes and the lovely crew for Sip Tea & EPP. Today's cup is more Madae-en Sencha, and for this week's listen I'm finishing up Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic. πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅πŸ“š

This past week I finished the here-and-there reinforced joins on the back of the hexies and gave the whole top a light press with Ecos starch for stability. I'm casually auditioning a border fabric – at the moment I'm liking this dusty mauve shot (peppered) cotton. It stands apart from the prints, but also has a nice antique kind of feel. (True dusty mauves seem hard to find these days, we're living in a phase of saturated hues.) 🎨 I'll sit with this combo for a while and see how it feels. Happy stitching, everyone! ❀️

Joining Irina @nordiccrafter and Larisa @stitchingnotes this Thursday evening for Sip Tea & EPP. Today's cup is more Republic of Tea Ginger Peach, and this week's listen is Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic. πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅πŸ“š

This past week I was able to complete the final section of the hexie flower quilt and join all three sections. Since these were the first hexies I'd ever pieced, I'm spending a little extra time working on the back of the quilt top, shoring up a few seams with extra stitches and (maybe) trying some thin strips of HeatnBond fusible tape for a few joins with scanter seam allowances (something I've learned over time – be generous with the seam allowances, if at all possible). πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅

It's Thursday, so time for some Sip Tea and EPP hosted by Larisa @stitchingnotes and Irina @nordiccrafter . Today's cup is Republic of Tea Ginger Peach, and this week's listen is Terry Pratchett's Carpe Jugulum. Granny Weatherwax for the win! πŸ§™πŸΌπŸ§ΉπŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅

This past week I began joining rows for the final section of the hexie flower quilt. I'm thinking of blind hem stitching the edges onto a border, so I may pull some cotton fabrics to audition for border and binding possibilities as the sections come together. We'll see! No pressure.

It's Sip Tea and EPP Thursday with Larisa @stitchingnotes and Irina @nordiccrafter and the crew. Today's tea is Maeda-en sencha, and this week's listen is yet another Terry Pratchett book, Maskerade. Granny Weatherwax is still my girl. πŸ§™πŸΌπŸ§ΉπŸ’•πŸ΅πŸ§΅

This past week I worked on joining rows and sections of the floral hexies – here are a few progress shots in late afternoon sun and shade. They're coming together pretty well, and it's a relief to be bringing them together after their long slumber inside a basket. The fabrics are contemporary, but I'm getting some vintage vibes from them, something that reminds me of old furniture varnish and 78rpm wax records in faded kraft paper sleeves. They're definitely not 1930s repros, but some do remind me of last-century chintz prints and embroidered botanical motifs on everyday linens. πŸŒΌπŸ‡πŸ§΅

It's Thursday, and I'm joining Larisa @stitchingnotes , Irina @nordiccrafter and the crew for our weekly Sip Tea and EPP. Today's tea is turmeric chai, and this week's listen is another Terry Pratchett novel, this time Lords and Ladies. Granny Weatherwax – still my fav. πŸ§™πŸΌπŸ§ΉπŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅

This past week I've been fiddling with the hexie flower coasters. I repurposed an old file folder for the tiny edge triangles, the smallest EPP pieces I've worked with so far. I gave the shot cotton triangles some pretty generous seam allowances and they all stitched up pretty well. Removed the templates and pressed each flower with a little Ecos starch to give extra resilience for their upcoming trips through the sewing machine. Next phase: quilting with Insul-Bright and cotton backing with another generous allowance around the edges for hand-stitching.

Dropping in for Thursday's Sip Tea and EPP with Larisa @stitchingnotes and Irina @nordiccrafter . Today's tea is blackberry sage (Republic of Tea), and this week's listen is more Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett (the Shakespeare riffs and references are off the chain). πŸ˜„πŸ“š This past week I was able to finish stitching rows of hexie flowers. Next phase: gradually joining the rows into sections. Likely a slower process, but having the rows already stitched and labeled relieves a lot of the guesswork. πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅

Time to join Larisa @stitchingnotes and Irina @nordiccrafter and the crew for Thursday's Sip Tea and EPP. Today's tea is more ginger peach black (Republic of Tea), and this week's listen is Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett – I've become a huge fan of Granny Weatherwax. Must be a theme. πŸ§™πŸΌπŸ§ΉπŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅

I'm back to EPP, assembling this collection of hexie flowers that's been waiting patiently for years. We had plenty of color-coded stickers left over from our moving boxes for section and joining markers, and I've just started building up the rows and sections.
πŸ“πŸ–ŠοΈπŸͺ‘

The three extra hexie flowers are well on their way to becoming coasters. I swapped out the original bright centers for muted shot (peppered) cotton, and will attach tiny triangles of a darker shot cotton to round them out. I pulled a rosy chocolate print for the backing and some old Insul-Bright batting to give them a little heat deflection. Coasters live a pretty rugged life around here – they'll inevitably endure rings and droplets of tea, cocoa, and various other concoctions, so I'm revamping these little guys with a darker palette and a hand-washable construction.

Thursday, and I'm joining Larisa @stitchingnotes and Irina @nordiccrafter for our weekly Sip Tea and EPP. Today's tea is ginger peach black (Republic of Tea), and this week's listen is Equal Rites from Terry Pratchett's witches arc (I just finished the Tiffany Aching arc, first time – better late than never). πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅

These orinuno blocks went pretty quickly once I recalled the machine settings and revved up my muscle memory. I've gathered them in a little project basket with notes and a sample of the batting, in case I decide to make more at some point. It's a relief to have them all assembled, sewn, and napping together contentedly.

Next up – I pulled out an old stack of small-print floral hexies. These are the first (or second?) EPP pieces I made, maybe ten or twelve years ago, many of them cut from scraps from other sewing projects. I'll be playing with the arrangement for a while, like a puzzle, then labeling them to begin joining in sections.

After sizing the hexies, I pulled out three extras to rework into coasters. I'll give them a more stain-resistant shot cotton or dobby center and border and backing and quilt them up with a layer of Insul-Bright batting, something to give them a little more absorption and washability for their new jobs with all those mugs coming their way. β˜•οΈβ˜•οΈβ˜•οΈ

Happy stitching, everyone! πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅

Thursday is here, and it's time to join Larisa @stitchingnotes and Irina @nordiccrafter for Sip Tea and EPP. I'm better remembering how to machine-stitch these little orinuno blocks – here's the past week's batch, wild thread tails and all. Today's tea is more turmeric chai. Happy stitching! πŸ’•β˜•οΈπŸ§΅
