Some days I feel beautiful. Some days I don’t. Both days, I am still worthy.

*Your body deserves kindness.
* You do not need to shrink to be loved.
* Healing looks good on you.

This painting began with a song cover that stopped me mid-scroll. I wasn’t drawn to it because of the body—I was drawn to the emotion.
When I picked up my brush, I didn’t see a woman.
I saw a girl standing somewhere between childhood and womanhood, carrying expectations that arrived long before she was ready. A body that has been noticed before it has been understood. A face learning to survive the weight of other people’s eyes.
My work has always returned to the same question:
What if women were allowed to exist in their bodies without shame, assumption, or apology?

So this became less about recreating an image and more about continuing that conversation through my own language, my own colours, and my own brushstrokes.

Still unfinished.
Still becoming.💟

I’ve always been drawn to abstract art because it lets me speak in shapes, textures, and silence before words ever arrive.

Lately, my curiosity has been leading me toward the beauty of Igbo culture. As a Yoruba girl, I’ve found myself deeply inspired by its rich symbolism, especially the feminine symbols that embody strength, resilience, and the quiet power of womanhood.

This miniature painting is a small beginning—a love letter to learning, exploring, and creating with deep respect. I hope to keep weaving these inspirations into my work as I continue discovering the stories our cultures hold.

Art reminds me that curiosity can be a bridge, and every brushstroke is another step across it💟 by @tifes.wave

The central figure is a young Black woman in profile, gazing thoughtfully to the side with a subtle, introspective expression her full lips slightly parted, eyes wide and expressive under arched brows. Her skin is rendered in luminous, faceted planes of warm browns, oranges, and greens, giving her a glowing, almost ethereal quality.
Crowning her head is an elaborate yellow headwrap (gele), striped in ochre and gold, which wraps dynamically around her form like a protective aura, extending into abstract tendrils that frame the composition.
To her left, a semi transparent warrior figure emerges from shadowy blues and grays a woman in traditional blue and white striped attire (reminiscent of Yoruba or Igbo wrappers), holding a spear aloft.
This piece leans into a modern African pop art vibe, with influences from graphic design and textile patterns think bold outlines, flat color blocks, and mosaic like shading that recalls kente cloth or adire dyeing techniques. The faceted skin tones (greens on cheeks, pinks on lips) add a cubist edge, fragmenting the form to highlight inner radiance.
The woman embodies quiet strength and beauty, her profile a nod to classical African busts. Together, they evoke themes of resilience, identity, and cultural continuity perfect for narratives of Black womanhood amid global challenges.
This piece is a gem of joyful defiance a compact powerhouse that celebrates African femininity with wit and warmth. The woman’s gaze alone tells an uplifting story of poise and protection.
