My son just won 2nd Place in the Wilmington, Delaware Black Restaurant Week Student Cook-Off Competition, and I honestly cannot put into words how PROUD I am of him! 👨🏾‍🍳🏆

What makes this moment even more special to me is remembering when he was just a little boy. One Christmas, all he wanted was a cooking set. He loved cooking and was already showing an interest in something that brought him so much joy. Unfortunately, there were people who tried to pull him away from it and told him that cooking was “gay.”

But look at you now, baby. 🥹❤️

You didn’t let those words define you. You didn’t let anyone shame you out of something you loved. You kept going, kept learning, kept creating, and chose to pursue your passion anyway.

And now you’re standing in your purpose and getting recognized for your TALENT. 👨🏾‍🍳🔥🏆

I hope you understand how proud I am—not just because you placed 2nd, but because you had the courage to continue being YOU when other people tried to make you feel like who you were wasn’t enough.

Never let anybody make you shrink yourself or abandon your dreams to make them comfortable.

Keep cooking. Keep learning. Keep creating. Keep believing in yourself.

2nd place today… but baby, this is only the beginning. 👨🏾‍🍳❤️🔥

Eighteen years ago, God gave me the greatest blessing of my life.

MY FIRST BORN “MEKHY” ❤️🤱🏽

Watching you grow from my little boy into the young man you are today has been the greatest privilege. Every challenge, every milestone, every laugh, and every lesson has made me even more proud to call you my son.

No matter how old you get, you’ll always be my baby. I hope you always remember how deeply you’re loved, how capable you are, and that there’s nothing you can’t accomplish when you believe in yourself.

Now… you’re officially an adult. 😂 That means you can make your own decisions… and your own doctor’s appointments. Welcome to adulthood, where naps are a luxury and bills have perfect attendance. Don’t worry though—you’ll always be my baby, even if the law says otherwise.
