My vibrant, decisive, little leader of a girl changed my life 4 years ago today. I will never be able disentangle the magical truth that she arrived on my beloved father’s birthday - the very same year he had to go. Or the fact that she was the fiercest anchor for my soul as I journeyed the nightmarish path of divorce.

It’s a very different kind of mother-daughter bond when you are each other’s only safe haven, healing, & at times, most difficult counterparts. Venice embodies a strength that long proceeds her, a depth that can only have come from a lifetime before, and a presence as piercing as her blue eyes, filled with hilarity, stubbornness and an unmatched whit.

Oh my little girl.

How bravely you dance, scream and revel in our beautiful little life.
How effortlessly you bring a smile to my face, no matter the sorrow.
How intensely you invite me to soften and be still.

You draw out the purest form of my love…

the kind I shared with your Grandfather - it’s no mistake I will forever get to celebrate you both, every year, on the very same day.

Sometimes you gotta rely on your past to remind you of who you are, of where you were always headed and to catapult you to your ultimate highest self.

Baby me, middle school me and red carpet me…are all the same little girl with a giant dream that I simply cannot turn my back on.

To celebrate my personal new year- I’m reminding myself of who I’ve always known I am. To trust her, to believe in her and most importantly to just…be her.

Sometimes simply being yourself can feel like the hardest thing. Accepting yourself, loving yourself and LIVING for yourself. All of that makes you full hearted, unblocked and able to fully show up for & truly love the people you care about most.

Here’s to a new year of showing up as me, for me- so I can give all of my best to this beautiful world.

my mini pilot-in-the-making, just like her grandfather.

I grew up on the tarmac, playing and walking around my dad’s numerous aircraft projects. Whether he was flying one or designing one- Planes were an everyday part of life. I remember when 9/11 happened, and how the eerie quiet of the skies really got to him. For the first time- all planes were grounded and that continuous hum, we take for granted, was silenced.

my dad flew jets until the day he passed and was his happiest either holding my mom’s hand, or the control yokes in flight.

It felt good to be so in awe of him and all he accomplished in his lifetime- to look up and feel him and that happiness through the thunder of the @usnavyblueangels rushing across the sky & in the electric sunset, blanketing us driving home. by @tiffdups

seriously, you can do this in two minutes I give all the props to how incredible these products are. I even had my cutie jump on my lap, and the whole thing was done and dirty. I don’t use a filter- so you see the product in its true form. Only help is from that beautiful afternoon magic hour light.

I’ve learned how greatly impacted I am by my environment. My ability to create depends on it. I never thought concrete could be so calming and inspiring- but our latest home has been a palette of opportunities to rest and imagine all at once. he passed the year she was born.
my dad was a pilot. I taught her when we see an airplane, it’s him watching over us.
