The University of Winnipeg’s Diversity Food Services (DFS) has been recognized as a Top Performer in the 2026 Sustainable Campus Index, securing the fifth position total of 216 institutions world-wide in the area of Food & Dining.
DFS is a social enterprise that prioritizes sustainability at its core. In 2024, it had 52 ingredient suppliers and purchased 70% locally, sustainably, and ethically sourced products, exceeding the national average by nearly 50 percentage points. DFS also participates in inclusive and fair hiring practices and has staff participate in recipe development. It provides meaningful employment and career-building opportunities for individuals navigating barriers related to access, opportunity, or economic participation. Diversity’s workplaces are designed to be supportive, inclusive, and dynamic, valuing each team member’s contributions and potential.
“This recognition is something our whole team can be proud of and means a lot to our team because it reflects years of work by many people who have believed that campus food can do more than simply feed people,” said Jessica Young, Culinary Director. “This has happened intentionally in the background for well over a decade now and has had many helping hands along the way. Food service is often measured by speed and price, but this ranking recognizes the deeper work; local purchasing, scratch cooking, waste reduction, fair employment practices, and longstanding relationships with Manitoba producers. Diversity Food Services was built to prove that institutional food can be practical, affordable, and values driven at the same time. For Diversity Food Services, sustainability means looking at the whole system, and campus food has the ability to shape habits, support those local economies and show students that ethics and hospitality can belong together.” by @tigerlilypeanut

Being seen - Seeing

Out of the softened sinew has emerged a controversial vulnerability. Like rolling your window down at a stoplight to say hello and make eye contact with the panhandler. Bearing witness to somebody living their own death rituals, it’s hard to not look away.

We see ourselves in others complicated ways, and perhaps if we don’t look, we won’t have to feel.

We bury our rotted flesh, bone and all in the summer soil to decompose and germinate. To transmute and transform, to give life to what’s underground and be encapsulated by shadows.

When the seasons have matured, we dig them out and bare the experience of seeing where our bones have been broken, our adolescence softened. A death ritual of our own.

Muddy palms feeling the nature of who we have the power to become, and already are. Soaking our bones in berry juice,

Replenishing.
Upheaval.

Year of the Snake 2025 transition into The Boisterous Year of the Sacred Horse 2026

Transition. Grief of assuredness. Proof that lives here in the smoke remains. Defiant Joy….. independence in riot.

I knew this year was going to be bigger than any before it in the last decade . In a previous January conversation with my friend Tara, I was certain the universe just remembered my name. Certain the coming year was going to be Cosmic in ways words weren’t capable of holding, the marrow of my bones knew……they always know.

This place allowing me to grow in my depths. Show myself I will take care of myself. Sustaining my life on my own terms.

So much has been about letting go of the space that routed me for the time being and allowing a new re root. Choosing to show up again and again, in all of the ways that feel hard. The standing still, while your skin is on fire.

Choosing pace over urgency. Letting motion regulate instead of waiting to feel “ready”. The Horse says, you don’t need permission to move.

Sacred as in worthy of protection.
My time, my energy, my body, my love…things that are not infinitely available. Abundance as Enoughness that I can feel in my nervous system. Electricity.

Abundance looks like support, not arriving within collapse, pleasure without justification, rest that actually restores, allowing life to meet me halfway.

Boisterous unapologetically full. Laughter that takes up space , opinions that don’t soften themselves, joy that spills, clops, shakes the ground.
Speaking from the chest instead of the throat. Moving through the world with visible aliveness.

This is joy with muscle. by @tigerlilypeanut

My Words for you are endless.

Time is lost with you
It makes my bones ache
Calling me out for minimizing life that left marks

Being with you leads me to keep believing in hope, love, and connection

Giving way to a deep grief release I didn’t recognize
It was hiding in plain sight

You looked it in the eyes with kindness…….as if you had any other way

Our sheets are tangled with last nights sleep, cell structures overlaying in ancient energy that existed at the origin of our universe

We are solitude in parallel, laying roots in between the fertile soil of Us

Relief of a love that says “This”
This is it,
in the face of historically looking away

Not eating cornpops in bed with you right now is the poverty of my heart, but most importantly, I want to continue loving you.

Happy Birthday love ❤️ by @tigerlilypeanut

Transitions are weird

Change is external, what happens to you. Transition is internal…. a psychological event. Some will be frustrated by change because we are unwilling to endure the process of transition.

Transition is traumatic and it matters what you cling to in transition. You will have to cling to something new and uncomfortable to move forward in a transitional season of your life.

We are letting go of something to embrace something new. You cannot take hold of what’s new when you have a death grip on what’s old.

What you cling to in this transition will determine whether you move forward or stay at the gate. Holding onto the old you forfeit the future.

Life and death. Always moving together. Taking and giving. Wild nature exemplified by the finder of the dead, the one who sings over the bones of the dead, bringing them back to life again.

Death creates stillness.
Brings time of reflection on our affection.
Brings sorrow, and joy in appreciation.

Im afraid of death
Not my own, and not those who I love; but rather I’m afraid of grief
Grief that remains
The kind that is sticky…..heavy at the same time.
Constricting
Abundant

And I think that’s the thing with grief. Death is inevitable, and we can’t separate ourselves from it. But grief’s often surprising and unpredictable.

“Love in its fullest form is a series of deaths and rebirths. We let go of one phase, one aspect of love, and enter another.
Passion dies and is brought back. Pain is chased away and surfaces another time. To love means to embrace and at the same time to withstand many ending and many many beginnings- all in the same relationship.”

Proof we’ve been here. Have been affected by the love and presence of someone and that in itself can only be beautiful. ✨Jan.31/25 by @tigerlilypeanut

~ 11 years ~

This year feels different, a coming of age, a quantum shift. An initiation.

“ The poets work is to feel immensely and not be afraid. They must seek out truth in the darkest corners of the world, and carry it back for all to see.”

I forget that I’m part of earth sometimes, an idle attempt to not feel hunted. Defiant joy it feels like. Begging to be seen, my tongue abandoned me in the memory of my own name.
I will tell my secrets to my self rather than laying them in hollow hands as I step aside from sharing exaggerated limitations with those who neglect to contend with it along side me.

Relief, grief of an identity that feels foreign lingers, a call to return to the origin story, home. Burning words, telling myself a different story. I smell like fire, the kind that settles all the darkness. Hands anointed in soot , proof I’m on my own doorstep.

Questioning if there’s belief in it. Admiration in it. Rejection in it. Love in it. Hope in it. If I stand for it. Care for it.………….trust it.

The universe remembered my name. Found me digging in my own grave, and tales of how it dreamt my death. Asked me to come home and dance to who I am.

I am the silver light of the moon, the fire that swallows the air, the leaves that chance frost over a kiss from the sun, and the warmth in soft soil at midnight in July.

Honest words protect me when I shed my skin, vulnerably exposing my soft belly. The fragments of truth you say hello to yourself in. I have settled the grievance with separateness and have less to say but much more to listen to. ~ ✨🐍~ by @tigerlilypeanut

I share too much, often too soon

I Inherently believe that everything is poetic and deserves its own mythology

I Love the wrong people the right way

I’m cryptic in poems and abrasive in person but soft in the dark

I feel uncomfortable and clench my fist, when I’m asked to smile in groups of people

I often leave social situation’s curious if what I said was the right thing, but resting into the fact that I’m not sure that there is any “right” thing

I am afraid of grief, I’m afraid of it breaking me in ways that I won’t be able to put back together

I enjoy embracing the darkness, even when it feels too much

I believe gifting rocks and pinecones are some of the deepest acts of love

The smell of pine reminds me I’m on earth and in my body

I want to smell like fire……always

A deepest fear is being ordinary, and that none of it matters

I have a tendency to look away when love looks at me

My love is ceremonial grade, this season I’m not looking away ✨🦂🌙 by @tigerlilypeanut

Shadow season. Life and death. Always moving together: Taking and giving. Wild nature exemplified by the finder of the dead, the one who sings over the bones of the dead, bringing them back to life again. The place where anything, and everything that is too overwhelming, frightening, or intense when we originally experienced it. A time to explore emotions with intense curiosity, and without judgment. A time to give life to a more integrated version of ourselves, and to hold love and admiration for the grit, the last ones held.

~BURN~

Burning away the residue of being forgotten

Frightened by things, I don’t recognize yet, with unknown names
Old moons and expections not met

Uncertain
Less tight
Less motivated to participate, tangled in old mythology

Interpretation of who I needed to be
Two versions

Death is the final act of never being able to rectify the lost opportunity to earn the love that would have never solidified or at least in the ways needed

A lifetime of eluded connection and glorified intimacy

Words that never left the source to be told as a fairy tail , as if the truth wouldn’t carry its weight like pockets lined with lead in an open sea

Clamouring at a sense of belonging, home, recreation of an origin story. A story inherited as a supporting role

Edited out for lack of necessity and false substance

Burned your words, told a different story.

I smell like fire, the kind that settles all the dark horses. Hands covered in soot , proof I’ve made it home. by @tigerlilypeanut
