What makes a Nation?

According to Google, a nation is a community of people formed on the basis of a combination of shared ideas/culture. A nation is thus the collective identity of a group of people understood as defined by those features.

Tight Curl Nation is composed of naturals worldwide with a shared identity of having tight coils curls and waves, that are committed to caring for and loving our hair as it naturally grows out of our scalps. It’s a culture of gentleness, and a community that supports each other while keeping in mind our different lived realities.

Under the umbrella of Tight Curl Nation, a tight curl natural in Canada like @gagus.hair can connect with and feel solidarity with a tight curly in Ghana like @missserwaa_ by sharing their unique experiences with their tight curls and sharing an identity of being part of the nation’s common belief in self care through hair care.

Student work 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 My students In Ghana 🇬🇭 @beautytechnicians are slaying these curls and cuts and I am so proud! Our debut Tight Curl Nation teaching trip in August 2021 in Accra was incredible and the fruits of it are still evident today as naturals in Ghana are getting to experience and wear their curls. @the_afrogirl smile says it all!
