Before I ever crossed paths with you, Rob, we were already mystically connected…we just didn’t know it yet.

I happened upon @beachbumzmaui only two miles from your home, which would become a very special place to me on Maui. I was drawn to a vintage looking mug w this cool green glaze. It wasn’t signed. This purchase would be a fortuitous one for me..I just didn’t know it yet.

One year later when my sister wanted a mug I took her to Scott’s, who sent us to Rob’s for me to buy their old kiln( I know🤍) We thought we scared you off when we totally geeked out on your collection before we drove off with your kiln (the very one you shared with Scott) all we could say was what a generous guy to host us. It was Xmas Eve! We left there feeling so spoiled, me dreaming of the vessels I wanted to make. I had no idea these vessels would take the form of functional art-Tiki Mugs🌺

Soon after, you and Kristy visited my home to help mold my first mug. You walked over to my small collection of mugs and picked up a vintage looking mug with a cool green glaze and said, “Oh look, my first tiki mug design” and that’s when we knew…I had added a Tikirob to my collection before I ever knew who you were🤣

My favorite part of this story is equal parts: how much love we came to have for your family and how much gratitude I have for you mentoring me as an artist. Visiting you, Hannah and Kristy quickly became our new favorite thing. The countless glazing sessions, the stories you’d share, the time my girls would spend w the fam and of course Ziggy…countless inspiration you gave- all while just being you. Always generous you, with your precious time and so kind. Your quiet encouragement was pivotal to me as was your depth of creativity and calm guiding energy.

Penelope still talks about her art lesson with you, wearing her @Tikirob T-shirt you had especially printed for her. She wore it on her first day of school this year. She loved watching you tame the wild geckos that were drawn to your calm, easygoing nature. My girls truly are your number one fans.
