No AI. No robot voice. Just a real human 🎙️

Every word, letter and phrase in Tikiri is spoken by a real person. Who? Let’s just say he sounds familiar 😉

Tap once to hear a word, tap again for the slow version 🐢. It all works offline, too.

📖 Toddlers recognize words better when they’re spoken slowly and clearly (Song, Demuth & Morgan, 2010)

Our hodiya deserves something beautiful too 🔤

The full Sinhala alphabet has about 60 letters. Tikiri starts with the 37 core letters you’ll use every day. Tap a letter to hear its sound, then see it in a real word with a picture.

Great for little ones starting out, and for grown-ups who never learned to read Sinhala.

📖 Knowing letters and their sounds is one of the strongest early predictors of reading (National Early Literacy Panel, 2008)

🎃 Pumpkin, bat or cat? Tikiri couldn’t pick just one costume!

👻 Did you know? Sri Lanka has its own spooky legend, Mahasona, the “great demon of the graveyard.” Folklore says he has the head of a bear and lurks at crossroads at night. Tikiri says she’ll stick with the pumpkin hat, thanks 😅

Happy Halloween from Tikiri 🧡

Learn Sinhala in the language you already know 🌍

Pick from 12 helper languages, and every word’s meaning shows up in yours. We chose them with care:

🇱🇰 Sri Lanka’s other main languages: Tamil and English

✈️ Where Sri Lankan families live around the world, like the Middle East, Italy, Korea and Japan

🧳 Where Sri Lanka’s visitors come from, like India, China, Russia and Germany

It’s separate from your phone’s language, so you can switch anytime in Settings.

📖 Kids learn new words more easily when they’re explained in a language they know (Lugo-Neris et al., 2010)

Can’t read Sinhala yet? That’s okay 💛

Every Tikiri card starts with the word in English letters, split into syllables (sin-ha-ya 🦁). Tap to hear it, tap again to hear it slow.

Made for families living outside Sri Lanka, starting with mine 😅

📖 Little kids hear syllables long before single sounds (Liberman et al., 1974)

Less is more with flashcards 🧸

In one study, toddlers who were given 4 toys played with each one about twice as long, and more creatively, than toddlers given 16. The researchers’ advice: rotate a few things at a time instead of putting everything out at once.

That’s how Tikiri’s flashcard decks work:
1️⃣ Start with Numbers
2️⃣ Unlock Animals, Colors and Shapes
3️⃣ Go to Settings → Active decks and keep just a couple on
4️⃣ Switch in a new deck when those start to click

Which deck does your little one love most? Tell me below 👇

📖 Study: Dauch, Imwalle, Ocasio & Metz (2018), “The influence of the number of toys in the environment on toddlers’ play,” Infant Behavior and Development.

Somewhere a Sri Lankan dad is explaining to his kids why he was yelling at the TV at 3am 😅

Congratulations to all the Aiyyas and Akkas at @officialslc on chasing down 430 against England. The second highest chase in ODI history! 🏏

Kawantissa was Sri Lanka’s tallest wild elephant, standing 11 feet tall with huge tusks that reached all the way to the ground. Even though he was super big and strong, he was known for being sweet, calm, and friendly to everyone around him.

Sadly, Kawantissa got hurt by a gunshot and passed away after animal doctors tried very hard to heal his leg.

To remember him forever, our elephant flashcard in the app will now be modeled right after him in the next update. Every time our little friends tap on the elephant card, his quiet memory will live on.
