I set out to build the best desk furniture you can buy. Solid American hardwoods. No plastic. No plywood. No painted MDF like the other brands you’ll find out there. Every piece is made in the USA and built to last a lifetime.

I’m a video editor and filmmaker. I made the Monolith for people who work at their desk all day and want a setup that serves them better. These products were built for you.

The Monolith Monitor Riser in American walnut. I love the deep, rich color walnut takes on once it’s oiled. I’ll be building a lot of these over the next couple of months.

Something new is coming too. I’ve designed a set of accessories for the monitor riser, and the samples arrive next week. They’re made in the USA, with the metal bending and powder coating done by a shop in Reno, Nevada.

Want a Monolith Monitor Riser for Christmas? Order early. Every one is hand built by me, and wait times will grow as the holidays get closer. 🙂 taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado by @tildemade

I think so too. That’s why I build every desk riser out of solid hardwoods. No plywood, mdf, thin veneers, or plastic here. taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado by @tildemade

Somewhere along the way, quality got redefined. It became about how something looks in a photo. A nice surface over a cheaper truth. I think that is backwards. Quality is what a thing is made of when no one is looking. It is solid hardwood instead of a veneer over plywood. It is a piece you can sand down and pass on in thirty years. That is the standard I build to. Not the look of quality. The real thing. taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado by @tildemade

There’s a moment where “made by hand” turns into “made by me.” When I make something by hand, I never forget it. I made it for you. I selected the perfect boards, I spent hours on the build. Mass-produced furniture is meant to be forgotten, because it was never made to be remembered in the first place. This is where a desk setup with actual hands behind it comes from. Where quality is defined by the person behind the product. taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado by @tildemade

I’ve been working on a lot of new products plus an updated website. Here are a few of the projects and their progress!

Working on a new version of the monolith monitor riser, this one flat packs. The slots have to line up exactly, so I finally made the CNC file to get the slots and corner radius perfect.

Made a new catchall tray that will be available to buy soon. Available in maple, walnut, and black oak. Measure 8in x 5in x 3/4 thick. Solid wood.

Working on videos for the website refresh featuring the Monolith setup. In use: the monitor riser in black oak, the phone stand in maple, and testing the new catch-all tray, also in maple.

I wanted my monitor risers to feel more unique, so since I only make a few a month, I started inlaying these brass brand tags I made with the products serial number.

Prototype of the new monitor riser with a 2/3 shelf underneath. The shelf fits a 16-inch MacBook Pro, with room to still tuck a Mac Studio under the riser.

Afternoon walk with the dog.

Very large custom order of my monitor riser that’s almost as big as a desk.

It took longer than I thought to hit my first $1,000. Here are three things that actually got me there:

1. One video, a million views, $700 made. And I wasn’t even trying to sell anything. Just me building one of my chargers start to finish. No pitch. But watching the process showed people why it costs what it costs, and proved it was really handmade. The process was the sales pitch.

2. Months spent on the website. Professional but still handmade and small, not corporate. Built on Shopify so I own the experience instead of handing it to Etsy. Every photo is the real piece, shot in my shop by me. No AI, no stock photos. An ai photo destroys trust in a handmade product/brand. The trust is the product.

3. Saying yes to the custom builds. The commissions I almost turned down became my best orders. When you’re small, saying yes is how you find out what people actually want. I was hesitant to build custom versions of products I was already making, but those were versions I never would’ve made on my own. Custom orders take a lot more time, but in a way you’re getting paid to test a new prototype. A couple of them worked so well I’m thinking about turning them into permanent products. taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado by @tildemade

Every monitor riser from now on gets a brass tag stamped with its model number. I only make a handful a month, and I wanted each one to feel like its own piece.
