The rattle of the window
As the wind breaks through the pane,
It howls to the door,
And whistles through the frame

Convinced that I can sleep beside the noise that plights the house,
I leave the window open
I leave the mind unlatched

I wake amongst the clouds
That cannot seem to fade
Yet there is no rain to fall,
They only know the shade

The trees that line the street
Frown upon the day
The storm has loved and left
After making them this way

i notice how the rain feels,
when it teases through the trees
are they whispers, is it laughter
between the wheat,
between the leaves

the hem along my trousers
not so long ago was dry,
now sodden with the remnants
of the summer’s morning sigh

maybe i could stay here,
and lay beneath the sky
where ill grasp a palm of grass,
like its a lovers hand in mine

as the sun drops down the mountain
im reminded of the time!
but i do not wish to leave you here,
i do not wish for you to die.

if you lived inside a memory
that made a promise not to fade
are you sure that it won’t falter?
won’t it become each shade of grey?

i’ve learnt to say goodbye,
in a number of different ways
you would think the words were easy!
how they scratch,
how they ache.

alas the moon is rising now,
the crescent’s smirk is clear.
i miss you, and i love you
ill hold you close, just not as near.
