What a wonderful evening in one of Europe’s truly great cities!

It was such a pleasure to welcome President Massimiliano Fedriga of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, Prefect Giuseppe Petronzi, Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero, and so many distinguished guests as we celebrated the enduring friendship between the United States and Italy.

There’s something special about Trieste. Its history, its stunning waterfront, its remarkable architecture, and, above all, the warmth of its people make this a city that stays with you long after you leave. It’s easy to understand why so many have been drawn here for generations.

As my #CoastalDiplomacy journey continues, I’m especially grateful for opportunities like this—to experience extraordinary places, build new friendships, and celebrate the enduring partnership between our two countries.

Thank you, Trieste, for such a warm welcome. I look forward to coming back.

Venice has long been a gateway between nations, where commerce, culture, and maritime tradition have connected people across the world. What a fitting place to host a reception aboard Boardwalk celebrating our #CoastalDiplomacy initiative as part of America’s #Freedom250 commemorations.

I was pleased to welcome Mayor Simone Venturini, Prefect Darco Pellos, Italian Trade Agency President Matteo Zoppas, and so many distinguished guests from across government, business, the arts, and the maritime community.

As the United States celebrates 250 years of independence, we also celebrate the enduring friendship between our two countries—a partnership strengthened through trade, innovation, shared values, and the ties between our people.

Every third weekend in July, Venice celebrates the Festa del Redentore, a tradition dating back to 1577, marking the end of a devastating plague. On Saturday, the city lights up with fireworks in thanksgiving, and boats gather on the water to take it all in.

Grateful for evenings like this. Buon Festa del Redentore.

As our #CoastalDiplomacy journey continues—including our latest stop in Ravenna—I'm reflecting on the incredible welcome we've received in communities across Italy.

Every port has offered a new perspective, every conversation has strengthened our partnership, and my visit to Cefalù, where my great-great-grandparents met and married, made this journey especially meaningful.

One of my favorite parts of #CoastalDiplomacy is getting to experience each city beyond the official program.

Lauren and I enjoyed spending time with Mayor Alessandro Barattoni, the Prefect Raffaele Ricciardi, and Archbishop Don Lorenzo Ghizzoni, exploring Ravenna's remarkable history and visiting the breathtaking Byzantine mosaics of the Basilica of San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia.

Standing beneath the famous star-filled ceiling that inspired Cole Porter's Night and Day was a memorable reminder of the many cultural connections that have long linked the United States and Italy.

After taking in Ravenna's extraordinary artistic heritage, we did what any visitor should do—we stopped for some delicious locally made gelato!

From centuries-old masterpieces to simple moments spent walking the city and meeting the people who bring it to life, Ravenna offered an experience we'll long remember. 🇺🇸🇮🇹🍦 by @tilmanfertitta

A fascinating visit to Fincantieri in Ancona, where I saw firsthand the innovation, craftsmanship, and expertise behind one of the world’s leading shipbuilders.

Thank you to CEO Pierroberto Folgiero for the warm welcome and tour of the shipyard, including a visit aboard an impressive cruise ship.

Shipbuilding has long connected our nations, and today’s partnerships in innovation and advanced manufacturing continue to strengthen the enduring friendship between the United States and Italy.

🇺🇸🇮🇹 Coastal Diplomacy | Pescara

One of the best ways to get to know a place is simply to wander.

It was a pleasure to explore Pescara alongside Mayor Carlo Masci—strolling through the city center, meeting local shopkeepers, enjoying a gelato, stopping by the historic De Cecco store, and taking in the music of the Pescara Jazz Festival.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to say hello and shared a little of what makes this beautiful Adriatic city so special. Experiences like these remind me that the strongest international friendships are built not only through official meetings, but also through the simple joy of connecting with local communities.

From the white cliffs of Santa Maria di Leuca to the historic streets of Otranto, the waterfront of Gallipoli, and the vibrant city of Bari where I met Mayor Vito Leccese, this weekend's Coastal Diplomacy journey showcased the incredible character of Italy's southern coast.

Every stop offered something unique—remarkable history, rich traditions, innovative local businesses, unforgettable cuisine, and, above all, wonderfully welcoming people.

I was grateful for the opportunity to meet with local officials, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and residents who shared the stories and traditions that make these places so special.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us with such warmth and generosity. It's a privilege to experience Italy one community at a time, and I'm looking forward to discovering what lies ahead.

Along the Coastal Diplomacy journey, even the briefest stops hold extraordinary surprises.
In Le Castella, I discovered the ancient charm of the Aragonese Castle.

Once again, I was overwhelmed by the warm and enthusiastic welcome of the Calabrian people from local and regional officials to the kids on the street who are passionate about basketball and the NBA.

Italy—its villages and its people—offers a constant discovery of beauty and a lasting reminder of the friendship between our two countries. 🇺🇸🇮🇹

Another impactful Coastal Diplomacy stop, this time celebrating Freedom 250 in Siracusa. 🇺🇸🇮🇹

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a wonderful evening. It was a pleasure to meet the mayors, security partners, business leaders, and members of the local community whose friendship and commitment strengthen the relationship between the United States and Italy every day.

This part of Sicily is home to many of our U.S. servicemembers, and it was a privilege to spend time with the people whose presence and work strengthen our security partnership. Thank you, Siracusa, for such a warm welcome.
