POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This reel was actually really hard to make. It occurred to me yesterday, after posting some stories about Tilo having some nervous moments at a busy park cafe, that there is a Tilo that very few people will ever get to meet. The Tilo that people will know is the nervous, scared, timid boy hiding between my legs or trying to get out of his collar when he’s panicking or refusing to walk past certain things or people. But that isn’t really Tilo. Tilo is a happy, bouncy, maniac of a boy who has such an energy for life and this Tilo exists despite the fact the world is such a scary place for him. This is the Tilo I wish everyone had the pleasure of knowing.

I knew from the first time I put a lead on Tilo and tried to take him for a little walk down my road that he was nervous and scared of the world. But it wasn’t until I took him to my vet for the first time a few weeks later that I truly understood just how petrified he was of life. He wouldn’t let the vet touch him, he cowered in the corner, shaking and weed all over himself.

It was at that moment that, subconsciously, I made a decision. I wasn’t going to fail him. It would have been easy to let his world stay tiny, my house and my neighbourhood. But he deserves the hard work. He deserves my patience. He deserves my dedication.

Has it been easy? Absolutely not. Has it been uncomfortable? Yes. Has he had meltdowns? Many, and still does. Has there been tears? More than I’d like to admit. Have we kept pushing past our comfort zones? Yes, because that’s how we both learn.

Tilo still has so much to learn but I refuse to let his world be limited.

Consider this your sign to rent a beach hut and spend the day at the beach with your dog and homemade banana cinnamon rolls.
