Just because a song is biblical doesn’t mean it’s congregational.

Just because a song is popular doesn’t mean your church can sing it.

And just because a song is powerful doesn’t mean it’s the right fit for your people.

One of the biggest shifts in my worship leadership happened when I stopped asking:

“Do I like this song?”

And started asking:

“Can the church sing this song?”

The goal of congregational worship is to help the people of God lift their voices together.

That’s why I created SINGABLE: A Worship Leader’s Guide to Congregational Worship.

Inside, I walk through the questions I ask before introducing a song and the principles that help churches sing with confidence.

Your worship team doesn’t need a better setlist.

They need healthier leaders.

And healthy leaders don’t happen by accident.

They’re developed through consistent time in God’s Word, intentional discipleship, and a heart that stays connected to Jesus.

That’s one of the reasons I created 52 Weekly Devotions for Your Worship Team.

Every devotion is designed to help worship leaders and teams grow spiritually, lead from overflow, and remember that worship ministry is about more than songs and rehearsals.

Because people need more than a setlist.

They need biblical encouragement, spiritual growth, and a deeper understanding of why we lead worship in the first place.

If you’re looking for a simple way to invest in the spiritual health of your worship team, this resource was created for you.

👇 Comment DEVOS and I’ll send you the details.

One question has changed the way I choose songs for our church:

“Can my church sing this?”

Not:

“Do I like this song?”

Not:

“Is this song popular?”

Not:

“Is everyone else doing it?”

Healthy worship leaders understand that song selection is pastoral.

A song can be biblical, powerful, and even popular... and still not serve your congregation well.

That’s why I created a free guide called SINGABLE: A Worship Leader’s Guide to Congregational Worship.

Inside, I share practical principles to help you choose songs that encourage participation, build confidence, and help your church lift their voices together.

The goal is to help the church sing.

Why do we worship? 🙌

Because the love of Christ compels us.

We don't worship to earn God's love. We worship because we've already received it.

When we truly understand what Jesus has done for us, how could we not respond?

His love changes us. His grace transforms us. His sacrifice gives us every reason to worship.

Worship is our response to who God is and what He has done.

“For the love of Christ controls us...” 2 Corinthians 5:14

🙏 May we never lose sight of WHY we worship.

Here's something I've learned after 20+ years of leading worship: the first 60 seconds of your service set the trajectory for everything after it.

Most Sundays we just start singing. The band kicks in while people are still finding seats and half the room is thinking about the parking lot.

But what if you gathered your people first? One Scripture. One spoken moment that says: we're here for God, together.

That's a call to worship, and it's the most underused 60 seconds in the modern church service.

So I wrote 100 of them. This resource gives you the Scripture plus a spoken prompt you can memorize or read word for word this Sunday. No scrambling Saturday night.

Four sections walk through the whole story: God's greatness, His faithfulness, Jesus and the gospel, and the gathered church. A Topical index included for you to easily find the right call to worship for the right service.

It's $7. Less than your coffee run this week.

Comment 100 and I'll send you the link! 🙌

There are few feelings in life better than this. 😂

Vocals are sitting just right.
Band is balanced.
Click isn’t trying to destroy your soul.
And somehow… you can actually hear yourself.

Nobody touch ANYTHING. 😂🙌

Worship leaders, you know the feeling.

Talent might get you on the platform.

Character determines who you are when no one is watching.

God is more interested in who you are on Tuesday than how well you play on Sunday.

Before we worry about leading songs, building sets, hitting the right notes, or creating great moments, we need to let God do His work in us.

The private life matters.
Faithfulness matters.
Integrity matters.
Who you are becoming matters.

The platform is never more important than the person.

Before you lead them this Sunday, let Him lead you today. 🙏

Your volunteers need more than a spot on the schedule. They need someone who cares about their growth and their heart. 🙌

I don’t always get this right. It’s easy to get focused on filling positions and preparing for Sunday. But developing people takes intentional time and care.

- Invest in their skill.
- Pastor their heart.
- Give feedback with love.
- Create growth paths.
- Celebrate faithfulness.

Choose one to put into practice this week. A conversation, a prayer, or an opportunity to grow can mean more than you realize.

Save this for your next team huddle and follow @worshipleaderhq for practical, biblical worship leadership!

Stop performing. Start participating.

Robert Webber said it best: "Worship is not something done to us or for us, but by us."

Worship was never meant to be a spectator sport. It's not a concert we attend. It's an offering we bring. Every voice in the room matters, including yours.

Worship leaders, our job is not to perform for people. It's to point people to JESUS so THEY worship.

Drop a 🙌 if you're with me.

Scripture should be at the heart of how we plan our worship services.

God has already given us His Word. It reveals who He is, reminds us of what He has done, and teaches us how His people should respond.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Colossians 3:16

When Scripture shapes our planning, it begins to shape everything else.

The songs we choose.
The prayers we pray.
The words we speak.
The truths we emphasize.
The responses we invite.

Our goal is to help God’s people see who He is, remember what He has done, and respond to Him in worship.

And Scripture gives us the foundation for doing exactly that.

Let the Word shape the worship.

A worship team needs more than good relationships to stay united.

We need a shared mission.

When everyone understands what matters, what’s expected, and why we’re doing it, we have something bigger than ourselves to rally around.

That means we:

7. Set Clear Expectations
Clarity helps everyone move in the same direction.

8. Handle Conflict Quickly
Address issues early, directly, and with love.

9. Focus on the Why
Keep reminding your team why we’re here and Who we’re doing this for.

Because ultimately, we aren’t just trying to build better musicians, better vocalists, or even better worship teams.

We’re serving Jesus and helping His people worship Him.

That mission is bigger than our preferences, personalities, positions, and opinions.

Unity grows when the mission stays clear.

That wraps up all 9 Ways to Build Unity on Your Worship Team.

If this series has helped you, SAVE all three parts and SHARE them with your team.

And tag a worship leader below who is working to build a healthy, unified team!
