In 1768, a grand hall inside the Royal Palace of Naples was transformed into this permanent Court Theatre for the wedding of Ferdinand IV and Maria Carolina of Habsburg.

It became a place for theatrical performances, music and entertainment at court.

Apollo and the nine Muses, deities of the arts, surround the theatre.

More than two centuries later, its purpose hasn’t entirely changed: the theatre is still used for performances and concerts today 🎭✨.

I especially like that last detail because it creates a beautiful continuity between what the room was made for and what it still is today.

I didn’t know this garden survived a war until I stood in it. In 1943, Allied bombing destroyed the church of Santa Chiara during WWII. However, this cloister, right next door, came out untouched.
300 years later, it still looks like this

What if the mermaid we know today was never a mermaid at all?

In ancient Greek myth, the Sirens weren’t women with fish tails, they were hybrid creatures; part woman and part bird, beautiful and dangerous, whose voices no sailor could resist.

And one of them, Parthenope, became inseparable from the story of Naples.

From ancient myth and ritual to art, sculpture and the streets of the city today, her image transformed across the centuries: wings became scales, the bird became a mermaid. Parthenope never really left Naples.

I kept finding her everywhere in Naples,
In different forms, from different centuries.

Maradona isn’t just remembered here ; he’s practically worshipped.

He led Napoli to two Serie A titles (1987 and 1990), an almost unimaginable achievement for a southern Italian club at the time, in a country where the north–south divide ran deep. To Naples, he wasn’t just a footballer, he was proof that the city could win.

Walk through the Quartieri Spagnoli and you’ll find shrines dedicated to him: murals with golden halos, life-size cutouts in three jerseys — Argentina, Barcelona, and Napoli and, most strikingly, his portrait sold almost like a religious icon, displayed alongside statues of the Virgin Mary and the saints.

Here, football isn’t just a religion.
It really is faith. ⚽️❤️

The so-called “Sappho” of Pompeii; not the famous Greek poet, but a young Roman woman captured mid-thought, stylus resting against her lips, wax tablet in hand.

Her portrait was more than a beautiful image. The tablet and stylus tell us something about how she was meant to be seen: as a woman who could read, write, think and create.

In 79 AD, Vesuvius buried Pompeii beneath ash. Nearly 2,000 years passed. Empires disappeared, generations came and went, and yet somehow, she remained.
