If I wasn’t me, If not for my self confidence, if not for my self-esteem & if not for my thick skin, I would’ve been the most depressed person from the number of times I’ve been body shamed. Almost everybody around me has body shamed me in one way or another.

I wouldn’t lie and say none of those have ever gotten to me, I just never let it show because I swear to God nobody will ever get that satisfaction, NOBODY. Sometimes people might not even know that’s what they’re doing, but that’s still your fault, you need to be responsible and sensitive about how you make others feel because I can assure you that people never forget how you make them feel.

Most of the time (like 75% often), I wholeheartedly believe that I have a beautiful body, I DO, but the rest of the time, I let your words play with my mind to an extent I question my belief.

Regardless of everything, I have a very deep connection with my body, it listens to me and I listen to it. I have an unmatched energy and I can literally control what I do with my body(and even how tolerant it should be with pain). The body you shame, is the one I worship!

I’m not here for your sympathies, I’m here to say that this song; “My body My choice” is MY song, OUR(those who face the same reality as me) song and I’m claiming it. So thanks to @naikamusic for this badass reminder🙏❤️

FGM is often discussed loudly, argued over, defended, denied.

But for girls, it is felt quietly; in the body, in memory, in what is taken without asking.
This isn’t about winning an argument.
It’s about choosing girls.

I participated in the 2nd International Conference on FGM in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which took place from October 9th to 11th. This conference brought together activists and stakeholders from around the world to discuss the various situations related to FGM in different regions and generate recommendations to support the anti-FGM movement. Given the current situation of FGM in The Gambia, this conference was essential, and the global community is closely following our efforts. We remain unwavering in our commitment to ending this practice.

I had the privilege of being part of a youth-led panel where we discussed our challenges, ways to support youth-led movements, and the specific situation in The Gambia. As members of the Global Youth Consortium, we moderated a vibrant session titled "Unsilenced United Voices: Youths Rising to End FGM" and also drafted the Dar es Salaam Youth Declaration Against FGM. Additionally, I co-presented the main outcome document summarizing the discussions over the three days of the conference. I am deeply honored to have been part of this event and am more dedicated than ever to contribute to this crucial cause.
