Whelp... When you make knives, odds are you'll eventually get bit. Last week one jumped off my work bench and very quickly and efficiently severed the tendon to my big toe. It has since been reattached, but it means I'm off my feet for a few weeks and getting behind in the makings for the holiday season. As a result I won't have many finished pieces to trot out until later in December, but if you'd like to reserve a belt knife or cheffy I am doing a limited run of them over the next 6 weeks. Thanks to my sweetie I am in good care as I recover, but a little financial support would go a long way right now. Please reach out if you're interested in owning any of the things I make :)

Solid block side table. Mystery salvage eucalyptus... Very hard and heavy! Stunning rays running through the end grain, eyes on flatsawn faces and killer texture on the exterior. Any ideas @creativesoultimber? Maybe sugar gum or citriodora?

As many of you already know, the fire rolled through Orella on Tuesday afternoon. We were able to hold it off and save all structures, humans, and livestock on the land, thanks to some quick dozer work and the fire hydrant infrastructure installed by our fearless leader Guner @gaviota_givings. Couldn't have asked for a better team of folks to meet this challenge, big thanks to Cole, Zoë, Jack, Jenya, Heidi, Kai, and Sequoia. Many thanks to the firefighters who showed up to support and help with mop up. Huge thanks to the sheep of @cuyamalamb for grazing down fire fodder, these pictures show how the fire burned the unmanaged hillside at Exon and stopped at our property line where rotational grazing practices have been implemented. It's a good reminder that although we in California live with real fire danger, there are ways to mitigate the risk in many cases, and it all starts with responsible management. Lastly, thanks all who called or sent messages of love and support throughout, we appreciate all the well wishes and offers of aid. Now let's all pray for some light rains so we can get some roots in these hills again and avoid the slides that can be so devastating in fire scarred areas!
