Have you ever noticed that Sally moves differently from Jack?

It wasn't a coincidence. During the production of The Nightmare Before Christmas, the animators originally tried to make Sally walk in a more awkward, unstable way, like a real rag doll. The problem? She ended up looking drunk.

The idea was abandoned, and Sally's delicate, slightly insecure movements were developed in a different way. Even her puppet's ankles had to be reinforced to support her body, with her iconic striped stockings helping hide the structure.

Sometimes, the most memorable details of a character are born from the problems the animators had to solve behind the scenes. by @timburtonalways

What if the Land of the Dead is actually the most alive place in Corpse Bride?

Have you ever noticed how the world of the living is almost completely gray and lifeless, while the Land of the Dead is bursting with color, music and freedom?

Maybe that wasn’t just Tim Burton’s visual style.

Maybe it’s the point.

The living are trapped by rules, expectations and appearances. The dead have nothing left to prove.t

They lost their lives… but somehow, they finally learned how to live. by @timburtonalways

DID YOU CATCH THIS HIDDEN DETAIL ABOUT VICTOR? šŸ–¤

In Corpse Bride, Victor Van Dort is briefly called ā€œVincentā€ by Victoria’s father.

This may be a reference to Vincent (1982), one of Tim Burton’s earliest animated shorts. The main character, Vincent Malloy, also has a strikingly similar dark and gothic appearance to Victor.

A tiny detail… but a very Burton thing to do. by @timburtonalways

SALLY HAD A PROBLEM…

Did you know Sally’s ankles were actually a problem during the making of The Nightmare Before Christmas?

Director Henry Selick explained that Sally was designed as the physical opposite of Jack. While Jack is extremely thin and angular, Sally was given a softer, rounder shape.

But there was a problem: her original ankles were so thin that they couldn’t support the weight of her puppet.

So the animators had to build larger metal structures inside her ankles and hide them beneath her stockings.

A tiny detail you would probably never notice while watching the movie but it was actually necessary to bring Sally to life. by @timburtonalways

THE VAMPIRES IN THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS ALMOST PLAYED HOCKEY WITH TIM BURTON’S HEAD.

Yes, seriously.

The scene originally featured the vampires playing hockey with a decapitated caricature of Tim Burton’s head as the puck. It was later replaced with a pumpkin.

Even crazier? Director Henry Selick later said he regretted changing the scene.

Imagine if that had made it into the final movie. by @timburtonalways

Before Jack Skellington came to life in The Nightmare Before Christmas, animators had to test how he would move on screen.

Early animation tests showed Jack walking through a cemetery, helping Tim Burton, Henry Selick and Disney see how the character would work in stop-motion.

These tests were an important step in bringing the iconic Pumpkin King to life, one frame at a time. by @timburtonalways
