Paul Caddick- UBU a new track out now and dedicated to Mr Matt McLean… by @timjhowarth

Such a gift of an evening at the Albert on Sunday evening. My awesome friends @scare_taxi followed by the Irrepressible @lena.lovich. Just a lovely reminder of how live music can soothe the soul even if it’s coming at ya with visceral abandon #livemusicrocks #scare_taxi #lena.lovich #getoffyourass by @timjhowarth

The art of play and discovery are deeply seated in the realms of process, so how much permission do you give yourself to fail, get it wrong, and make mistakes. Getting ugly along this journey is a sure fire way of embracing the imperfect, uncovering the soon to be talents but in the moment feel awkward and possibly embarrassing.
If you’re courageous enough to find a collaborator or two, there’s nothing more humbling or validating than seeing others ‘struggle’ but then finding solutions and insights over a period of time.
The journey is the adventure, may I invite you to go and find some well hidden treasures within the tools you already own…..it’s fun!!

Decided to NOT edit this and to practice what I preach so to speak - In many Indigenous cultures, music isn’t an elite skill reserved for the stage—it’s an embodied, everyday community practice. It’s a way of listening, connecting, and passing down truth. When we only share our flawless, edited end results, we accidentally isolate ourselves and discourage others. The mistakes aren't failures; they're points of interest to value and work through. The struggles aren't roadblocks; they are the actual song. Let’s demystify creativity. If you’re working on something messy today—a rough draft, an unpolished riff, a poem with crossed-out lines—post it. Drop a 💬 below: What part of the "messy middle" are you working through right now? Let's talk about it. #Musicking #CreativeProcess #Intentionalliving #MusicPedagogy #EnjoyTheJourney #VulnerabilityInArt #CommunityLearning by @timjhowarth

Birthday greetings from within this delicate mind...............Is our engagement with AI and our sense of making everything optimised and more efficient really making everything better? Our we all slowly experiencing ‘cognitive dissonance’ because our innate sense of pace, learning and process is causing a disharmony in our consciousness. I reckon that we are at odds with the pace of everything and AI is certainly ramping up this conflict.

Leon Festinger (A Theory of Cognitive Dissonance (1957) proposes ‘that human beings strive for internal psychological consistency to function mentally in the real world’

If he’s right then perhaps what we’re all mostly experiencing is a palpable degree of unease, that our nervous systems are trying to let us know that this ‘pace’ is not sustainable, that slowing down, that allowing for the journey of time and insight to come at us when we’re ready for it, that our ability to learn and take on new information will not be instant and it should reveal itself over time!

Is this actually what we’re all wanting, but are perhaps too afraid to ask for it? Ir are we so engaged in the mechanism that the doom scrolling is making us ‘happier’ and that distraction is OK until something better comes along!!!!

What if the struggle is the point, almost the defining element for life! Are we so cosseted by comfort and the quest for everything being easy, that we've lost sight of how the struggle actually encourages us to grow, to learn, to fail and embrace the journey. Are life hacks and our use of Generative AI actually reversing our ability to expand and evolve.

Growth always appears at the point of pushing through something, a discovery, a mental equation, a physical obstacle, an emotional block. Feeling the friction, the difficulty, the sense of failure, these are all part of process. A time based voyage that needs to be allowed to grow, meander, turn back on it’s self, pursue dead ends, hurdles and setbacks and enable breakthroughs and quantum leaps to occur when we least expect them.

AI doesn’t do any of this, it doesn’t understand the concept of struggle and if we allow it to continue the cognitive atrophy that is already taking place, where will we be in 20 years.

Don’t get me wrong, the goal isn't to seek out needless suffering, but to stop running from the necessary friction of growth. When we embrace the hard parts of the journey, failure stops being an identity and becomes progress. 7.83hz #struggle #process #CreativeIntegrity by @timjhowarth

The session didn't happen. So I recorded this instead.
It's about the addiction of thinking. The way we return to the same loops — not because they serve us, but because they're ours. Familiar. Safe. Almost instinctual.
There's something quietly devastating about comfort being the thing that holds you back.
One mic. No plan. Just a song that needed out. Find the full produced version on Bandcamp. #7.83hz #mentalhealth #addiction #overthinking #selfawareness by @timjhowarth

Floating the idea that we all have a constitutional rhythm, a pulse that ebbs and flows and informs our learning, our healing, our sleep, our ability to carry out new or mundane tasks!
Is this an area unexplored within how we as individuals feel, especially when we’re encouraged to take on a way of operating created by someone else, by another mechanism or institution. Are we quietly and unconsciously tuning out from our own innate sense of pace and tempo? Is creativity and self expression the best way to re listen to this rhythm!
I know that when I’m playing guitar or cultivating ideas for a song or even at the early stages of a mix the flow state often arrives, I’m no longer judging myself, I’m not measuring my ability against anyone else, is this my constitutional rhythm guiding me?

Curious to know if this relates to anything you’ve experienced either creatively or otherwise! Please leave a comment 🙏
