Prepping for the Air DH. It was beautiful outside, but we had to play with the lighting in the garage before heading up the mountain.

Shane's fun to follow with a camera.

We trekked up to Winter Park to cheer Shane on in the Trestle Gravity Series. It was a beautiful day to watch the racers hold on to their handlebars in the high speed chaos that is Downhill. Shane finished second!

After the award ceremony checked out the latest in mountain biking tech, the low rider (second to last photo).

Tomorrow is the Air Downhill!

The summer after I graduated high school I got a job at Syd & Dusty's Outfitters counting people at the put in on the Sacandaga River. I didn't know how to paddle a kayak or read a river, but I jumped at the chance as it was a way in. Besides the commercial raft trips a family showed up regularly - a mom and the younger son in a C-2, and a dad and the older son in separate C-1s. Their canoes were like knife blades carving through the water and I loved watching them practice on the two surf waves near the put in. I thought one day, if I could be so lucky, I'd be running rivers with my kid.

A few weeks into the job a couple of the guides asked if I wanted to join them on a day off. They put me in a kayak, taught me to wet exit, and we were off. Three decades later I still smile like it's my first summer paddling. Only now, I get to watch my son paddle too.

It was a bit of a rocky start though. When I suggested he practice wet exiting from a packraft a few years ago he planted his heels, stating he didn't want to run whitewater, that mellow float trips were just fine, and that I shouldn't push "my sport" on to him. Fair enough. I wanted him to come to the water on his own terms. Whitewater would have to wait.

This is his second summer running the Red Gate section on Willow Creek. He wet exits like a pro and keeps his wits about him and his gear when he swims. Last Friday was his first real surf. The happiness that comes from being on the water with him is hard to put into words.

Love you Rhone!

Many thanks to John Duncan for hiring me all those years ago, and to Jessie, Andy, Greg and the rest of the Sacandaga crew for getting me in a boat. (I am still paddling my Necky Jive and wearing my purple WW helmet.) by @timkayaks

Happy birthday @heatheronders! I love our adventures together!!

I love that you are a talented, compassionate nurse, that you're not shy about speaking your mind, that you can get distracted while taking your pants off, that you laugh at yourself and laugh at me, that you are up for a mid-June hike ski, down for a bike ride to test injured knees and calves, excited for saunas, and open to cold plunges, card games and bushwacking to scout river crossings.

Thank you for sharing this year with me. Love you, babe!

Projecting light in dark places.

Whether literally or otherwise, we kneel at their bedsides.

Hug the ones you love tonight, there are dragons in the hills.

In search of ice worms on a frozen planet on the far edge of the old Imperium, not far from Arrakis.

Equiped with ornothopter speeders, we covered ground quickly. Our stillsuits held the cold at bay as we cruised toward the berg calving ground and crawled through the worm holes. Light from the neighboring star erupted from the horizon but offered no warmth.

We found no worms nor spice on this receding edge of the ice, only remnants of great geologic forces and the brilliance of a frozen planet.

The air up here has been rather aggressive this winter.

But still, there is something invigorating about pointing your nose to the wind.

I hope you have all had a chance to get out and enjoy the little things while the wind tries to strip your shingles.
