This certainly isn’t the way I wanted to be doing a badge post, but here we are. Earlier this week, I was one of thousands laid off from Meta. For those unfamiliar, Facebook/Meta has always had a tradition of posting a picture of your badge internally when you leave the company. Since I didn’t have the opportunity to do that, I’m doing it here and on LinkedIn instead.

13 years ago, I started as a contractor working on the IT Helpdesk at Facebook. Little did I know at the time the absolutely wild ride that would ensue. I converted to full time in 2014 and had the opportunity to work on all kinds of things over the years in a few different capacities. I built tons of processes, fixed countless broken things big and small, did incident and crisis management, learned to be a people manager, supported tens of thousands (maybe even hundreds of thousands) of new hires, supported large-scale corporate events, worked on a ticketing system migration, another ticketing system migration, a support service conversion and insourcing, supported numerous acquisitions, helped open retail stores, and managed through a global pandemic when our operations were completely turned on its head.

I basically grew up at this company, and gave it everything I had. It really sucks for it to end this way, but I’m eternally grateful for my time there, and proud of what I was able to accomplish with the people I worked with.

I had the privilege of working with insanely smart people, and made friendships and connections that will last a lifetime. There are FAR too many people to name that were important parts of my journey, you all know who you are. The people are truly what I’m going to miss the most.

For now, I’m going to enjoy some time off, maybe do a bit of travel, probably some skiing (anyone want to go ski/snowboard in Chile this summer?), and some side projects I’ve had on my mind for a while. I don’t know what comes next for me yet, but I’m looking forward to what’s out there! by @timoddo

After years of wanting to go, I finally went skiing in New Zealand, and simply put, it’s an incredible place. Treble Cone was my favorite for a variety of reasons, these views being one of them. #ifuckingloveskiing
