Anzeige | A few weeks ago, I was one of the first to get my hands on the brand-new @7artisansofficial AF 18mm F2 APS-C to test. I’ve had it with me ever since, and I have to say honestly: I’m thrilled. It’s small, light and so compact – I’m not used to anything like it at all.

My highlights:
- 18mm ultra-wide
- F2
- 109.5g
- Pancake design, with stepped aperture ring and autofocus

Especially when I’m out and about, I want to carry as little weight as possible without compromising on the quality of my photos.

Australia is so much more than red earth and endless expanses. 🇦🇺

~1,000 km through one of Australia’s most diverse regions, from mountains and waterfalls, through volcanic landscapes and small coastal towns, to the spectacular cliffs of the Great Ocean Road.

Adelaide → Grampians → Great Ocean Road → Melbourne 🚐🇦🇺

What I particularly love about this route: you get to experience an incredible variety of landscapes on a single road trip. And in between, there are plenty of opportunities for spontaneous stops, wildlife sightings and little detours.

🚗 My tip: Allow at least 5–7 days and make sure to leave a bit of breathing space. The best moments are often the ones that aren’t on the itinerary.

So many different landscapes. One Route 🇦🇺

You never know when the light, the landscape or a random moment suddenly comes together.
That’s why I’d rather carry my camera and not need it than wish I had it.
Always be ready for the unexpected. 📸

THE BEST ROAD TRIP OF MY LIFE. 🇦🇺

Cairns → Brisbane → Byron Bay → Sydney → Blue Mountains. 🚐

📍 DISTANCE: ~2,500 km
⏱️ MINIMUM: 2–3 weeks
🇦🇺 EAST COAST AUSTRALIA

2,500 km along the Australian east coast, through tropical rainforest, past picture-perfect beaches, rugged coastlines and the Great Barrier Reef.
Australia isn’t just red desert and dusty air. Although that’s probably the first thing that springs to mind when you hear about it.
It’s also incredibly green, tropical and truly incredibly diverse. 🌿
A road trip I didn’t realise belonged on a bucket list.

(I’m still amazed that my camera survived the waterfalls 😅)

Some experiences are simply something very special when you have them for the first time. 🌍

Going on a road trip to see an active volcano.
Standing above the clouds.
Watching the Milky Way from the beach.
Exploring a new city with people you’ve only just met
Going diving on a reef

These might seem normal to some, but for me they’re moments that motivate me to keep exploring, to keep saying ‘yes’ and to try new things.
Because there’s still so much I’ve never seen, never done, never experienced – and definitely want to do.

Yes, it can be scary, but you’re more likely to regret not trying new things.

And I’m only just getting started. 🌍
What have you always wanted to experience for the first time?

Captured one of my dream photos, couldn’t be more happy 😁
Another bucket list photo ✅

Tips for capturing your dream wildlife photo:
- Find a suitable spot and the animal itself
- Set up your camera properly beforehand
- Patience and perseverance
- You can capture your dream photo with any camera; it usually comes down to the person operating it.

What’s you dream wildlife photo?

A few things I’ve learnt about photography over the last few years and my top tips too! 📸

Photography has taught me so much more than just how to use a camera. It’s made me more patient, taught me to look more closely, not to force moments, and sometimes simply to put the camera away.

The longer I’ve been taking photos, the less it’s about capturing the perfect shot and the more it’s about developing my own perspective and capturing stories.

What has photography taught you?

I know from my own experience what it’s like to wait for minutes on end for what seems like a better angle, and in doing so almost miss the actual moment. These days, I prefer to capture the moment as it is with my camera, rather than hoping that something more perfect will come along at some point. If I don’t like it then, I’ll just come back.

I have pictures that are technically far better than some of my favourite shots. Nevertheless, there are photos where I immediately remember where I was, who I was with and how that moment felt and that’s exactly what makes them precious to me.

Sometimes you don’t need a new subject or a new lens, just a bit of patience. Just after sunrise or before sunset, a landscape can change completely within a matter of minutes.

Sometimes you wait ten minutes, sometimes an hour, and sometimes you come back another day. With wildlife photography in particular, I’ve learnt that patience is often just as important as having the right equipment.

Social media has shown me just how many incredible photographers there are and, at the same time, how easy it is to compare yourself to them. Today, I don’t necessarily want to be better than others, but rather to take pictures where, eventually, you realise: this is my perspective, my story.

Some of my favourite photos weren’t planned at all. That’s exactly why I like to leave a bit of room for the unexpected when I’m out and about, because sometimes the best shot is waiting right where you least expect it.

And that’s probably exactly why I still love photography so much. There are always new places, new situations, new pers taken in Around The World by @timofarsch

Out and about, capturing the little details of this beautiful natural world 📸

And, of course, I always have my camera with me.
Here’s a little reminder: you don’t have to travel far to take stunning photos. Sometimes, all it takes is paying attention to the details in nature right on your doorstep and maybe to improve your photography skills. That way, on your next trip, you’ll be able to take even more amazing photos than usual.

What’s your best tip for improving your photography skills?
