Mom entered UW Medical Center on August 11th to start chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia. The docs said she had responded well and was due to start stem cell therapy later this month. But on August 31st she had a heart attack and the medical team was not able to revive her.

After getting our hopes up for a few weeks, the family is definitely in shock. I never have sleep problems and I was awake and miserable all night last night. What I can tell the folks who knew and loved her is that she died with her loving husband, my stepfather, Gary Bell at her side, her attitude was stellar every single time we spoke or visited, and she was ready.

I've lost a parent before, but it's a lot harder this time. Unlike with my dad, our relationship as adults was never fraught, never strained, I never doubted that she loved me and I know she never doubted that I loved her. We're planning a memorial, and I'll post info here when the details are set, or you can keep an eye on her Caring Bridge site. https://www.caringbridge.org/site/185b10b0-9906-11f1-b70f-41481100ec42?utm_source=website_share&utm_medium=share_button&utm_term=&utm_content=link_share_button&utm_campaign=sitestart

Romantique at @rabbitboxtheatre is three days away and we are halfway to sold-out! Now is a great time to guarantee your spot and get your tickets in advance if you haven’t already! I’ll be joined by @timothy.m.keller , @shaylaa.nelson , and @chrispowellpiano to tell powerful love stories through songs and arias. I am in awe of how wonderfully everything about this show is just falling into place, and I’m so excited to share my favorite romantic repertoire with you. We’re also going to have the Maiden’s Blush no2 cocktail made with @lucid_absinthe available to purchase to commemorate the most romantic evening of Seattle’s summertime. Tell your friends! Make a hot date out of it!

Song is such a powerful form of storytelling, and this post is to celebrate that. “Romantique” is about love and romance, expressed in many ways through classical music. I love finding connections between the repertoire I so heavily study and perform and the modern music that I love. It really helps to know what you’re singing about. I learn the meaning of the song, not just the gorgeous words in French and Italian until it’s ingrained in my performance. If you ever come to my shows and you can’t tell what I’m singing about, that’s my failure as an artist.
These are just some of the songs I chose that make me think of each piece I’m singing for you at @rabbitboxtheatre on August 22nd. I hope you love these songs, and the repertoire that I sing, as much as I do!

Song is such a powerful form of storytelling, and I’m excited to do so with my favorite romantic pieces in my repertoire, and I’ll be joined by @timothy.m.keller to create a romantic atmosphere as the summer draws to a close in the Emerald City. We’ll also be serving a signature cocktail of the Maiden’s Blush no2 made with @lucid_absinthe - it’s so exquisite and I think you’ll love it!
