Èzè, the spirit that sheds its skin and haunts the island in search of newborn souls.
This story haunted me since learning about it in high school in Papiamentu class. Later I found more stories in the booklet series by Paul Brenneker, ‘Sambumbu’.

This inspired me to make a series of work based on the idea of finding empty human skin lying around, and throwing salt on it, making it impossible for the spirits to return in their human shells.

It’s been a while since I made a post. This year has brought many changes, one of which was me moving studio and settling down in a new space. Now that the dust has settled, I’ll spend some more time updating my feed with some new posts!
✨ Let’s head back to Curaçao, where last November my first solo show on the island, ‘Bientu di Pasado’ was opened. At the beautiful location @landhuisbloemhof and with the support of @cultuurfondscaribischgebied I had the honor of showcasing my work back home 🇨🇼

🇳🇱 De winnende kunstwerken van Zomersalon 2024 zijn inmiddels al bijna een jaar te bewonderen in de openbare ruimte van Amsterdam Zuidoost. Het thema van dat jaar was TIJD, en zoals elk jaar kregen bezoekers de kans om op hun favoriete werken te stemmen.

In 2025 stond Amsterdam 750 jaar centraal en vanaf begin juli zijn de winnende kunstwerken van 2025 opnieuw een jaar lang te zien in de buitenruimte van Amsterdam Zuidoost.

Dit jaar is het thema UTOPIA en goed nieuws: de inschrijvingen voor Zomersalon 2026 gaan binnenkort open. Dus ben jij een kunstenaar (beginnend, professioneel of amateur) en heb jij een mooi werk wat past bij dit thema? Dan is dit je moment! … Elke discipline is welkom!

🇬🇧 The winning artworks from the Zomersalon 2024 have now been on view in the public spaces of Amsterdam Zuidoost for almost a year. The theme that year was TIME, and as is the yearly tradition, visitors were given the chance to vote for their favourite works.

In 2025, the focus was on Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, and from early July, the winning artworks from 2025 will once again be on display for a year in the outdoor spaces of Amsterdam Zuidoost.

This year’s theme is UTOPIA, and here’s some good news: entries for the 2026 Zomersalon will open shortly. So, are you an artist (whether you’re just starting out, a professional or an amateur) and do you have a great piece of work that fits this theme? Then now is your chance! … All disciplines are welcome!

KUNSTENAAR TIMOTHY VOGES OVER LOGMAN PLAAT | “ik vind het een eer om hier aan mee te doen. Het is een prachtige hommage aan Henk en wat hij heeft betekend”

“Henk kwam bij mij op atelierbezoek. En al snel daarna vroeg hij mij voor de expositie Delicate, in maart 2020. M’n allereerste expo in een galerie, samen met Jorge Luis Barragán Castaño, Claire Harvey en Gabriëlla Kroese. Ik zie Henk nóg zo staan om het openingswoord te doen, bij het grote raam. Op z’n Henks, goed gekozen woorden en een grapje. Dat was een goede start voor mij. Henk verkocht m’n werk goed en gaf me tips voor m’n administratie. Zijn overlijden was devastating nieuws. Daarom ben ik heel blij dat Johan me benaderde voor Logman Plaat.”

“M’n auditieve werk bestaat uit geluiden van Curaçao, waar ik vandaan kom. Net als bij m’n visuele werk, waar ik bestaande fragmenten transformeer. Je hoort suikerdiefjes, dat zijn de inheemse vogeltjes en de kloktoren. Vertrouwd voor iedereen die Curaçao goed kent. Verder hoor je m’n oma’s stem. Ze is honderd jaar en ik bewonder haar lieve wijsheid. We praten graag samen en dan hebben we het regelmatig over beschermengelen. Daarom heb ik m’n werk zo genoemd.”

“Interessant aan auditief werk vind ik dat je met geluid een omgeving kan creëren die de beleving van het beeld verdiept. En tegelijk kun je nog steeds zoeken naar wat je eigenlijk ziet en hoort.”

Logman Plaat is vinyl in gelimiteerde oplage van 100 stuks. Met 15 auditieve kunstwerken door 15 kunstenaars die nauw betrokken waren bij Henk Logman: Annemarie Slobbe, Cecilia Rebergen, Danielle Hoogendoorn, Frank Koolen, Guy Vording, Jans Muskee, Johan Buurke, Joyce Overheul, Julius Stibbe, Maaike Kramer, Marie Reintjes, Matthijs Hannink, Niek Hendrix, Ronald Zuurmond en Timothy Voges.

Elke plaat bevat 1 art print van één van de 15 kunstenaars. Wie de plaat aanschaft weet niet welke art print in de hoes zit.

👀 De expositie Logman Plaat is van 9 t/m 12 april bij Galerie Larik, Oudegracht 283 in Utrecht. De opening is 9 april om 19 uur. by @timothyvoges
