This July, take the challenge by choosing one plastic item to refuse, whether it’s single-use cups, plastic bottles, plastic bags or over-packaged produce.Individual action matters. I’m heading to Canberra to help push for National legislation that mandates producer responsibility for the plastic packaging they create. The world is moving ahead with better laws to deal with the skyrocketing consumption of plastic and it’s time Australia stepped up. Australians use a whopping 147kg of plastic per person per year, and at best recycling captures 14% - this is simply not good enough. We need a circular economy, we need reuse and refill schemes and we need to cut the harmful chemicals from plastic packaging. 🌊 The Next Wave came to Bangalow. What a night!A couple of weeks ago we brought The Next Wave to @bangalowfilmfestival. We screened an unreleased episode featuring surfer and ocean activist @dave_rastovich, followed by a conversation between @mandy.nolan, @timsilverwood, @belindabaggs and @whaia_creation on the future of ocean action.@sounds.oftheocean premiered, which is an immersive film concert presenting stunning visuals of whales and dolphins, scored live by Māori sonic weaver WHAIA. Her incredible voice complimented by traditional instruments and crystalline sounds were powerful and brought up emotions about the beautiful blue planet that we’re fighting for.The next chapter of ocean action has begun. A few days ago, I received an urgent call from legendary eco-warrior Neil Blake, co-founder of the EcoCentre St Kilda, where I've proudly volunteered for many years.The mission was simple: help Tim Silverwood and the amazing Take 3 for the Sea team facilitate a Citizen Day Beach Clean with around 150 L'Oréal employees in Melbourne.It was inspiring to work alongside so many caring volunteers, removing plastic pollution while collecting valuable citizen science data to support solutions that help.I love being part of initiatives like this. It reminds me that meaningful change begins with small actions:🌊 Take 3 pieces of rubbish when you leave the beach.♻️ Take 3 actions to reduce single-use plastic.💙 Take 3 people on the journey with you.Huge thanks to Neil, Tim, Take 3, L'Oréal Australia, and everyone who showed up to make a positive impact for our oceans. This week I’ve been in Melbourne running a big Take 3 clean up event and staying at the very awesome @1hotel.melbourne I absolutely love the impact we make at @take3forthesea - especially with 100+ people working to remove damaging plastic pollution from the environment and collect valuable citizen science data on found items. By mobilising citizens and collecting critical data we can support upstream measures to #turnofftheplastictap Thanks for spoiling me @1hotelmelbourne, the hotel, restaurants, events spaces (and so much more) are seriously impressive. I’ll be back! Things I love about 1 hotel: plants everywhere (over 7000 in fact 😳); reclaimed materials galore (the repurposed timber tiles in the bar are insane - and the huge granite boulders are actually offcuts); environmental artists featured throughout; filtered water taps in rooms ✅; diverting 87% of waste from landfill (goal is 90%… go team!)#take3forthesea #1hotels #1hotelmelbourne #invite by @timsilverwood

Happy World Ocean Day everybody! From me to you, on this special day. I want to send a big blue hug to everyone out there working to protect & restore the ocean. It’s a tough time but we must persevere, stay focussed on what success looks like and celebrate the wins when we make them.
