Written with sensitivity and practical clarity, After Church Hurt equips and comforts. It helped me with my own hurts, something that I have kept hidden, but am now better healing from. I am also more deeply resolved to care for Christ’s sheep.

Although the book is written for after church hurt, it can help leaders be proactive before church hurt begins. The book provides a path to cherish and care for the Bride of Christ.

The local church is meant to function as a healing and helping community that cares for God’s people. But what if, instead of grace and care, someone experienced harm and hurt? When the church becomes a place of abuse and silence, the pain leaves people spiritually disoriented and alone. These individuals may wonder if they will ever feel safe around God’s people again. Instead of running to God and his people, they run as far away as possible.

When sin is minimized, hidden, or even normalized within a church, it often leaves people carrying deep wounds. As counselors, our role is to gently help individuals name their pain honestly before God and within a safe, trusted circle of care. We also walk with them through the difficult process of re-engaging with community, where fear of being hurt again can feel overwhelming. Even in the weight of these situations, there is real hope. Christ is strong enough to carry His wounded people forward. Our calling is to reflect His character through our care, helping the hurting know that we truly have a Good Shepherd.
