The Last Night
By @tinana_art

We love the characterisation of the figures in Tianxi Wang’s The Last Night. Rather than feeling drawn from direct observation, they have an almost remembered quality, as though we’re looking back on a moment rather than witnessing it as it happens.

As Tianxi describes it, “The food sits forgotten as silence fills the space between them, heavier than conversation.” Through loose yet weighty brushstrokes, she describes the painting as holding “a fragile moment suspended in time, where tenderness and sadness coexist”.

The work suggests a farewell that may arrive tomorrow, “or perhaps has already begun.”

Based in London, Tianxi works across painting, printmaking and collage, drawing on personal memories and lived experience to explore relationships, unspoken tensions and intimate moments.

The Last Night is currently on display as part of the Well Hung Painting Prize exhibition, continuing until 29 August.

Free entry. The work is available to view in the gallery and online via the link in our bio. by @tinana_art
