Our @usfhonors clay 3D printed Oyster Restoration Brick (ORB) research group will have a booth at @stpetescifest today & tmro from 10 am- 4 pm if you’d like to come check out some of our prototypes!

Funded by the @tampabayestuaryprogram, the ORB project aims to replenish the declining oyster population in the Tampa Bay Area. Given the increased use of synthetic materials on seawalls amongst many other pressing factors, our community has seen a drastic decline of oyster populations along developed waterfronts. This effort initiates a propagation system with clay 3D printed ORBs to help reseed areas which have already been eradicated. The printed textures allow for maximum surface area for growth and protective cavities to protect the spat when they are most vulnerable for at risk zones.

Portals have always found their way into my work for their illusory gesture, and now another one is making its way to the bottom of the gulf for a coral restoration effort! The frame of “Arc of Nexus” & base are created with a specialty cementitious limestone + marine grade steel and installed in a zone of 95% barren sand flats to provide a substrate for anchoring species & encourage marine ecosystems. After next month, feel free to visit it 60ft down in the underwater sculpture gardens off the coast of Fort Walton Beach, FL with the Underwater Museum of Art! (or maybe wait a lil bit for some stuff to grow & move in, otherwise the porcelain sister portal sculpture is in St. Petersburg on land lol)

Meet the C19 | BayShield team!🛡 We are working together to develop an App which organizes supply & demand of personal protective equipment between makers & health facilities! The C19 BayShield app will launch our pilot program in the Bay Area & will then be available to other communities to help close the gap of professionals working without any protection. It will bring supplies to makers who are mass producing on their own accord so we can keep making! Calling all Makers! ✨ If you can 3D print or sew or laser cut, it’s time to help out with the #covid crisis & the lack of necessary face masks/shields for medical professionals. @josefprusa has an approved open-source face shield for printing that are already being used in CA hospitals. Or, if you can sew, hospitals are also looking for reusable mask parts. Some hospitals even reimburse for costs. Happy birthday to my brother Nick!!! How I miss you 💕 From teaching me how to ride a bike, to teaching me how to fish, he has been the best big brother. He broke his arm saving me in a fall when we were young, and he taught me what 3D printing was. He has had such an impact on my life and it breaks my heart that he is so far away.
