All my gratitude slides 5-7.

Anyways lol I absolutely refuse to rewatch these rounds… I swear I actually don’t think that deeply about dance until I try to reflect on it for this account.

But so much love for @waacklanta @venus.vinnycakes + all the communities here in Atlanta 🫶 I’m so awk when it comes to engaging & whatnot, but I do truly love dancing with everyone.

Highkey I’m tired & just want this out of my camera roll (so the grammatical errors in my reflection are insane). But Waacklanta Love was the best first big battle to ever go to.

From the ā€˜25 dance archives. My face is stuck to the mirror oops.

Man, I went through my old dance vids this week + I was quickly humbled.

Even just watching how I danced when I left Berkeley in 2024 + then when I left Groove in 2025, I feel slightly embarrassed remembering my increasing confidence, which now I worry was unfounded. Not to say I didn’t improve, but even a year later in 2026, I can clearly see that I have farther to go than I’d previously thought.

And it’s confusing, because some classes like the ones here, I find passable (if not good). Then there are videos that truly return me back to a beginner. So at first, I felt strange about posting these videos when there are none that I’m particularly proud of sharing.

But having all of my old videos in one place (stretching back to kpop in 2017 then bdc then groove + haapydaance…), I now see that regardless of how I feel about my dancing in the videos - each one has come to serve as a time-capsule: both for the communities at the time, and the events surrounding those classes.

For example, I’ll always remember the rain as I ran to Isidro’s class; the excitement of dancing and spending time with Nancy and Fiona in NY; interning on Mondays at StudioFX - watching 220 weekly; practicing in the new gym during my first month in ATL; squeezing in 1day of class with Kyle + Yong when I last visited OC - then staying at a boba shop to talk; sleepovers + dance classes with Ly in the first few months of 2025.

I’ll likely forever be frustrated by dance and forever in love with it. But despite all that, I’ve reached a point where I’m just grateful that I continue to find cool people to dance with + that I still find so much fulfillment in it after 9 years.

All of this is to say: I find great comfort + freedom in knowing I’m not great - I’ve felt that these years meant I had to be at a certain level for every piece, which I’ve not always been able to meet. Instead I rather approach everything as forever a beginner ready to learn + absorb. by @tingified

at a random taiwanese middle school in the mountains at 10am šŸ‡¹šŸ‡¼

I challenged myself to learn this on the 14-hr plane ride + i’m just happy to see how my pickup/understanding of dance has improved compared to when I started.

that being said, in my head I know the moves… but my body can’t keep up w/ the combos + physicality needed oml. I know I should loosen up, sit in my knees, + keep my torso open - but you know what, I’m learning just for fun so nahh I choose my sanity for today. But dc: @ivxnparedes is such a beast fr.

next step is to see how I can take what I learn from this piece + apply to my freestyle. Getting kinda nervous for waacklanta love - also love my relatives, but can they stop asking me to dance or teach them some moves 😭, especially my mom. I barely know what I’m doing myself. Just let me train in peace + solitude gahhh. by @tingified

GAG - a week ago I entered my first battle with strangers watching 🫠

After years of battling/freestyling being apart of my vision board, I was so hyped on nerves + adrenaline it’s crazy. These battles challenged all of my worst fears - going into something without a plan, having to control the attention of a group, feeling the eyes of random strangers… but man, I’m so lucky because everyone there was so damn supportive. And I’m so thankful the waacking battles were with my friends (though who was that all-styles/hip hop dancer - freaking loved his style).

I’ve got too much to say + a lunch break to adhere to… but for now, I’ll say, (1) I respect freestylers/battlers even more than before because the mental fortitude it takes is wowww (2) I feel so challenged in the right way - I love how battling forces me to just commit and go and perform (pulling out ideas I usually never would) (3) I hope I’m not saying this too early , but I want to do better at Waacklanta Love - in the sense that I don’t want to inhibit my own abilities with my shyness or feeling inadequate bc I’m psyched out by others - sticking to your guns is so important.

That’s it for now - but trust I could say so much more, especially on how thankful I am for this community. by @tingified

Easing back into freestyling/foundations - I really feel like a fish out of water, everything just feels wrong. But I’m also incredibly inspired by the scene here in ATL + I want to learn so much more about each dance style. Been a while since I’ve seshed with myself as long as I did on Tuesday & I started with tryna learn new house grooves (I think I need some baby powder bc the shox TL stick too much to my gym floor) and boy I was struggling.

Idk I wasn’t going to post, but I need somewhere to record the ideas. And I guess in the future, I hope I can come back and say wow I got so much better. by @tingified

fighting the 9-5: week 1…

so fun, but so challenging to do all 3 pieces in 1 take. after just 1 week, i’m even more out of shape :/ I know especially that I can do derrique’s better, but I hope I can come back + train my stamina/breathing with this piece.

I wasn’t originally going to learn this entire thing - but ivnxparedes, kenneth.espirituu, derrique.d ate with this choreo + track.ito’s mix is so fire.

don’t clock me if you’ve already seen this šŸ˜… i decided i liked my out of sync stomps by @tingified

At what point can you call yourself a dancer? And when do you have the right to become a teacher?

Despite dancing for 7ish years now, I refuse to call myself a dancer - it feels like a claim on an identity that I have not yet earned.

Although I’ve learned a lot over the years - transitioning from the bathroom to the studio, I’m stuck between a desire to share what I’ve learned & also the awareness that I’ve so much left to uncover.

Exiting college, I regretted not taking advantage of the opportunities to teach in Berkeley. I was eternally unready - a novice who couldn’t count, a girl who hated attention, but also a creative who wanted to share.

So when I returned to SD, I scoured for opportunities to try - even going to a YMCA interview 20 minutes away. Then I stumbled onto HaappyDaance, a KPOP studio looking for instructors?!

It felt too good to be true, but I was lonely, desperate, + applying for this just felt right; I’m forever glad I did despite my worries.

I’m not going to claim to be the best instructor, but I certainly learned a lot & I hope everyone else did as well. I learned that there’s a fine line between diving too much into detail + just showing the moves, that knowing how to pace a class is important… but most of all, to not underestimate anyone no matter their experience level. by @tingified

And so my year in socal comes to an end.

Honestly, at some point I started wondering: ā€œMaybe I should’ve spent these last few months of true freedom to travel, live in Taiwan, or backpack in Europeā€¦ā€

I regretted my casting: I wondered if I could’ve secured better spots; I wished I learned the heels piece (but also hands…). What was the point of staying if I’d given up on challenging myself? I’d wanted my family to see me perform once in-person, but I got embarrassed when I realized I had nothing to show for the remaining time that I sacrificed.

The very last casting, I just wanted to give my all. Even if I couldn’t do it well, I wanted to perform - to let it show how much I loved the piece. But then I messed up my stops, the cheers were quiet (bc I was the 2nd group), & I become increasingly self-conscious. I’ve never wished for a callback more, but alas, I did not get one. That really showed me you need to make the most of every opportunity.

However, I now think my positions in the set were an unexpected blessing. Because I felt no pressure, once I got onto BodyRock, I had the most fun I’ve ever had on stage. From starting the set winking at Celine, fist-bumping Miguel, partying with Logan, starting closer with Jolene, and ending facing Jello - I looked up, saw all 3 tiers of the room filled & I just felt excited to be with everyone on-stage. In that moment, I actually thought… wow this is fun.

And watching the final videos, I loved the set - Ivan really did so well in his vision of creating a new world. It was also so exciting to see all my teammates (who I’ve spent the past year learning from) shine as centers. by @tingified

Groove 2-week Training ā™¾ļø

*Sigh* just 2-weeks ago I was falling back in love w/ dance & I felt like I was on a roll w/ my video editing… but now I just feel drained. Partially bc I’m sick, but also just bc my mind is a fickle mess.

Piece-by-Piece Takeaways:

[1] Ivan’s Piece
- My intention: Breathe, relax, & feel connected to the music… to do my best not to rush. & there were moments of diff. execution I wanted to match.
- As I was watching prev. groups, I realized why I felt like my pictures/movements were off in some parts… I wasn’t hitting them long enough. My tendency to rush & connect movements prevented some tick-tick moments from hitting. Especially in the 2nd half, I was breaking out of the footwork/pictures just like 1 sec faster. I also didn’t complete my arm pathways on the pendulum part.
- I got the critique that I need to sit in my knees more 🤯 For this run, I was feeling some knee strain so it was extra obvious compared to everyone else. But genuinely, you’re gonna think I’m dumb - I didn’t realize how prevalent of an issue this is for me.

[2] Aiden’s Piece
- My intention: Sit in my knees šŸ’€
- The one thing I focused on & it didn’t end up showing through. But as I practiced it slowly w/ counts, I def felt the difference & was shocked by how much lower I could def go.
- If I was to re-do this, I would also focus on improving my textures. The hits & speed changes in the beginning were especially disappointing. Was srsly such a learning experience to dance next to Gracie. I just feel like my performance was too monotone in comparison.
- Critique received: better facials. I really don’t know how to do masc facials. Genuinely. I know I give more of that energy, but I can’t do it. by @tingified

Debrief: Groove Rockstar šŸŽø

Wow, I can’t believe that Rockstar could be one of my last sets ever (depending on how the Atlanta dance scene is…).

Tbh I’m really disappointed with myself + my lost momentum as the szn went on.

That being said, I want to debrief some of the learnings from this process as it’s still fresh in my mind:

[1] During casting, I found myself often losing control bc I felt the need to push my movement +ā€œperformā€. This showed me that (1) I can push my body + movement to be more ā€œfull outā€ than I realize when I practice alone (2) Moving forward, I need to ground myself before casting + actively practice to not lose sight of the music + textures that I’ve practiced.

Ex: stumbling, early + late music timing, moving waay more than other people, losing my ā€œgoundednessā€ bc of moving earlier, not sticking pictures.

[2] When they tell you to ā€œlock inā€ for practice and blocking, it doesn’t just mean focus up + do the movements roughly right to the music. It means fully performing it, adding in the attitude, showcasing what it would look like on the stage.

[3] Pick-up + being able to perform it right away is extremely important. I found myself struggling so so much with picking up the quick blocking + movement changes as we changed the set. It was such a mental push and it made me realize how much I need to work on that.

[4] I need explosiveness. Though I’ve always known this, my textures are pretty weak, especially bc I have a habit of trying to maintain control over all my arm movements. I kind of forgot this as the szn went on, but early on, I would imagine channeling the explosive energies of other people on the team (ex: Brooklyn + Claire ā¤ļø) + I found myself pushing my body more and attacking hard. However, I lost sight of it as I started trying to just get things right + look clean, which ironically makes me just stand out badly in the final video.

Anyways, please check out the Groove Rockstar set on YouTube. When I watched it, I was even blown away by how top-tier my teammates’ performance quality + facials are lol. And a huge thank you to all the directors and choreographers and my teammates, I constantly feel so inspired. by @tingified
