EXHALE Some connections arrive like oxygen. They feel rare. Inevitable. Written somewhere before you met. This piece was born from one of those. For a year, I believed in a future that was being whispered to me in fragments. Time zones, flights, long calls, shared memories from another city we both once loved. It felt fated. It felt aligned. But truth has a way of surfacing through distance. What I eventually understood was this: I wasn’t losing someone. I was releasing an illusion. EXHALE is the moment breath becomes boundary. The moment love becomes clarity. The moment you choose your own energy over someone else’s inconsistency. It is the only work where I allowed my own profile to appear. Not to memorialize him - but to witness myself letting go. The blue forms are movement. Energy leaving. Stories dissolving. The red figure is not a person - it is attachment untangling. This morning, my Dad passed away. We’ve had a distant and sometimes difficult relationship, but also a deep respect for one another - maybe because we were more alike than we cared to admit. I grew up lucky. My parents gave us adventure, independence, and the freedom to be ourselves. My dad showed me how to stand on my own, how to be strong, and how to be an individual. PRELUDE (2023) I created this piece during a moment of stillness - both forced and necessary. The film industry was shut down, my savings were gone, my car too. I couldn’t help my mom the way I wanted to. And I found myself in the thick fog of “what now?” I remember being in the bath when the image first came to me - something about that solitary space where your body softens, and your mind confronts everything it’s been pushing down. What started as a figure shielding itself from the world evolved into something more direct, more intentional. The outstretched hand became a demand: pause. Not to escape - but to regroup, to reset. To rebuild. The red rings are time and momentum - always circling, always pressing forward. But in this moment, I’m choosing to stop. To breathe. To find my own centre before stepping back into the current. We all have moments like this - quiet, stretched thin, unsure of what’s next. PRELUDE was mine. Maybe it’s yours too. It marked the beginning of a shift - out of survival and back into creation.
