Welcome to Tint Magazine’s October features. In this month’s Colour, we look at all the palette fragmentation on the catwalks this season and ask, What Happened to Colour Cohesion? Beatrice Irwin is the next in a series on Women in Colour; she brought mysticism, poetry and emotion to the often staid world of colour theory. And in Colour Voices we talk to Doty Horn about her life working with colour. Tint Magazine is free to subscribe, see link in bio. Image is courtesy of Acne Studios Menswear, SS 2027. by @tint_mag

In October's Culture section, we speak to designer Cristian Francioso, who's grandfather, Luigi, is living with dementia. Francioso has built a Memory Cabinet containing a collection of paper architectural models recreating places from Luigi’s life. These spaces are slotted in and out through the side of the cabinet, like changing the scenery of a theatre or stage set. He explains: ‘The Memory Cabinet is more than a piece of furniture or an archive of photographs, it is a small theatre of someone’s life, a prompt to remembered places, a physical presence that provides comforting fragments of home, routine and personal history.’ To read more, see link in bio. Tint Magazine October, Materials. This month we profile Marcin Rusak in what has been a triumphant year for the designer. In Material Intelligence, the focus is on the fibres of textile production, rethinking possibilities on an often fundamental level. And later this month there will be a report on the latest materials on show at @dutchdesignweek, always a rich source of inspiration. To read these and more, see link in bio. Subscription is free. Women in Colour: Beatrice Irwin. This poet, actor and colour scientist brought cosmic order, mysticism and emotion to the often-staid world of colour theory.
Irwin wasn’t the first to link colour with emotion, joining a long tradition stretching back to Goethe. So what makes her so special? ‘She developed a very elaborate and sophisticated spiritual framework connecting colour, emotion, consciousness, and cosmic order. This helped to popularise these ideas for a twentieth-century audience,’ explains Dr Zoe Alderton of University of Sydney. This month Tint Magazine brings you lots of reports on colour and materials from the best of the Autumn Shows. First up is @padesignart, published today. If you would like to visit, you have until 18th October. In terms of new directions, there was A LOT of gold at PAD London(as reported earlier this year in Tint). It was literally everywhere, either in fluid molten shapes or bronzed and beaten. Either way, cold metals were conspicuous in their absence. To read the full report, now live, go to link in bio. More reports incoming, from Decorex (hopefully published this Friday), to Dutch Design Week, taking place next week. by @tint_mag
