New Dolly options now available at www.tinyhandspottery.com. 10% of Dolly sales will go to The Imagination Library. I’m currently swamped with wholesale orders, and making pieces for my markets, so I’m putting these at 6-8 weeks for delivery. I always strive to do things more quickly than promised, but I needed to build in a little extra time this go around just in case! I love you, Dolly! I talked about you no less than 25 times yesterday. 💕 by @tinyhandspottery

When my beloved Dad passed away in November, the thought of cooking or eating felt like a weighted chore. In my adult life, I never made toast, and I didn’t even own a toaster. One day, that was the only thing that sounded good. Thankfully I had some bread, butter, and a jar of preserves in the house. I toasted the bread in the oven. For days on end, I was only eating toast, and it felt like exactly what I needed. I’m now eating more than toast, but still eat it for breakfast every morning. I’ve amassed 20+ empty Bonne Maman jars, and think of my Dad every time I see them. They bring me joy and some sadness. I wanted to create something that for me represented beauty from ashes. I made my version of a Bonne Maman flower pot and flower frog. You can also place the flower frog on your existing Bonne Maman jars. Seeing flowers that I picked from my yard, arranged in a piece that I made, that reminds me of my Dad simultaneously makes me smile and cry. This one is for me, but if there’s interest, I’d love to make a million more! Love you Dad! AND, I finally bought a toaster! by @tinyhandspottery

Amy Lowrey is the owner of Tiny Hands Pottery, a handcrafted ceramics studio based in Boone, NC. Amy calls herself an accidental potter - she spent her adult life in the nonprofit world, building homes in Mexico, traveling to 40+ countries, and helping underserved students access college funding. Then in 2015 she took a pottery class, fell completely in love, and eventually made the leap to full-time artist.

In this episode, we talk with Amy about that pivot - what it takes to walk away from a life of service work and bet on yourself as a creative. We get into the realities of building a handmade goods business from scratch: selling wholesale, doing shows, teaching lessons, and finding your people. Amy shares what she’s learned about making things with intention and why she believes beauty and creativity have the power to light the world up.

It’s been 570 days since Hurricane Helene assaulted Western, NC, and its tentacles are still ever reaching. The grief still lingers in the air. The damage is visible. The loss is palpable. Today, I pounded out the very last of my clay from High Water Clay. High Water, located in Asheville was destroyed by the Hurricane. The loss was too great, and they didn’t reopen. Our clay manufacturer was gone in an instant. It’s the clay I learned on. It’s the clay I’ve used for the past 11 years of building my business. I’ve sourced new clay, and honestly, I kind of hate it. It throws differently. It slightly changed the look of my work. It’s not what I’ve known and loved. I can see my palm prints on my clay in this photo. I’ve never really noticed them before, but this in some way felt significant, as High Water made such an imprint of me for years. I miss the clay. Life goes on. But I’m sending love to any of you who are still in the throes of rebuilding (physically and emotionally) from Helene. 💕 by @tinyhandspottery
