Omg so we were driving through backroads after a trip for some BBQ in Wharton, Texas and Carter says “WHOA what are those?!” I look out the window and see a row of tee-pee style huts and INSTANTLY recognized it!!! I said “OMG is that the filming location for Lolita?!?” quickly googled it and confirmed that YES IT WAS!!! I squealed & asked if we could go see it again, and he quickly turned around so that I could get a closer look. 🥹 The original sign is still standing & the Tee-Pee Motel is still functioning! SOOO COOL!!! I said we HAVE to come back and stay one night! 😆 Omg! Lolita has always been my favourite novel. I have a deep appreciation for the juxtaposition of the gorgeous and lyrical prose against the sick and brutal bones of the story. I named my first dog after the book, my Lola. 🖤 I used to fall asleep to the films. The 1997 re-make features the Tee-Pee Motel as one of the hideaways on the run. I was so thrilled to happen upon the location by pure chance! I figured it was a made up Hollywood set, or set somewhere obscure in the high desert of California. It’s right here in Texas.
