I love when writers point of types of animals, trees and plants!
In New York State there are about 6 to 7 species of woodpeckers. This can depend on time of year and migration. The purpose of drilling into a tree is to find beetles and their larvea to eat, or to make nesting areas in the tree. Some woodpeckers also eat seeds and nuts.
The Downy is the smallest the three I posted, usually will visit backyard feeders.

The Red-bellied woodpecker doesn't really have a red belly. 🤣 They are known to hide nuts and seeds in bark crevices to find later.

The Pileated woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in North America. Their sound is added to the post. Their drill can be heard for miles. Their wingspan can reach to 2 feet.

Pictures found in Pexel photostock.

I always enjoy a new twist and perception to vampires.
Main characters are Sloane and her best friend Naomi. It is Sloane's bday weekend and they have a cabin at a resort. Needless to say it gets bloody lol. I don't want to spoil anything. I loved learned a out Sloane and Naomi's friendship.great reflection on how life long friends can go with time apart.

Finished both of these today. The Fallen and the Kiss of Dusk was audiobook. Carrie was in paperback.

The Fallen... is a vampire romance fantasy book 4th in a series of 6, 5th just came out this year. I liked the first duology of the set much better.

Carrie is a classic and it was really interesting to read after watching the new series.

Over the weekend I went on a mushroom walk with a local mycological Society. I got to see this type of fungus up close, commonly known as a Blewit. Young specimens have this purple hue and as they mature more (as you can see the stages in slide 3) loose that purple hue. This is an edible mushroom.
They love to grow in leaf litter, breaking down the leaves returning nutrients to the soil.
You can see the Blewits in Peterson Fuild Guide tk mushrooms.

Coffee and reading Carrie.
I just finished the Carrie series.
Nice way to start my morning off. Anyone read Carrie? What do you think?
Stephen King originally wrote Carrie as a short story in a men's magazine. I read that introduction of the book. Cool little side fact there. I got this copy at TJ Maxx.

Me with my kitten Twinkie.
She is a sweet little thing that has her zoomies and cute gremlin moments.
She is still learning her personality.
We are missing her sister Moewth and brother Mishka.

This book was really fun! I enjoyed getting to know all three of the female characters. Three very different women discover they are dating the same guy. I love the sisterhood that formed! Also the setting of creepy cabin on a snowy mountain! I don't want to spoil anything else. Definitely read this! #bookrecs #bookstagramgirl #bookstoread #Bookstagram #winterreads

Both fungus here are jelly fungus. It is a general term for fungus which have gelatinous ans rubbery texture. They dehydrated and shrink when the environment is dry, but once it rains they absorb the water. These pictures are right after a long day of rain!

Just got this book during my trip in PA. Another example of non story books but still fun! I love reading about cryptinds, I find it very fascinating.
Maybe I'll feature some as I go through the book.

Not all books are story books. Some have interesting and useful information about areas.
My husband got me this book for any travels we do in the future. We love the Poconos in PA.
