In many ways, the often-overlooked club culture of Meanjin, by its southern cousins, has led to a feeling of isolation, one in which the city has engaged with sounds, culture, and play with little concern for wider trends.

The city is proud of its sub-tropical uniqueness, rough edges, and the kind of tight-knit community that could only exist within the confines of a smaller city. @theblackbearlodge is an example of that very pride.

We’re going neon red mode this Friday at Black Bear Lodge with Meanjin-via-Boorloo balearic master/mischief maker @sachaaalexiou .

A tasteful selector with an evil streak that runs a mile long, they perfectly balance a sense of cosmic beauty with tough, sexy tones and an appropriate sprinkling of grit. Expect laser beams, mysterious characters and healthy dose of cosmic goodness.

A spotlight on @tinywhisk_nrg before Sunday

Event info:

We are proud to be presenting one of the longest standing talents within queer clubland: @jennifercardini

Emerging from the gritty, sweaty Parisian sapphic club scene at the turn of the century, they have gone on to play pretty much every enourmous storied room we can think of, whilst always retaining a distinctly punk influenced approach to the techier side of the rave spectrum. Diverse yet tight, they effortlessly move through eras, rhythm and style with a sense of class, intention, and a noticeably dark streak at times. Their sound was bred in basements, and now they will be gracing ours!

On support we have a line up of some of our cities most notorious trouble makers in the form of @tahll , @dj_philsmart , @miracle.passing , @tinywhisk_nrg and @winona_router_

For our next support, we have the near universally beloved queen of ethereal pop dreamscapes that is Fatshaudi. A supremely accomplished artist, she marries a love of traditional pop songwriting and structure with an experimental sonic approach, melding a distinctly Soundcloud-coded sensibility with some of the dreamier, lush moments of 80s dreampop. Yearning, intimate, and soft, to enter her musical world is to love it @fatshaudi by @tinywhisk_nrg

Introducing our first support for James K next Monday: Jeani

One of the preeminent talents to emerge from our city in recent years, her practise extends into visual art, production and her legendary DJ sets. Performing live for the first time, she traverses ambient abstract, ethereal drone and organic textures filtered through her dreamlike downtempo lens.
