March is shaping up nicely at Alba. Here’s what’s ahead:

03.13 — 313 Day
Free coffee for anyone with a 313 area code from 8am–4pm. Detroit love, on the house.

03.14 — @majlis.detroit Majlis Pop-Up (8pm)
Their final Ramadan pop-up of the season. Food, drink, and tunes from the homeland beginning right after Iftar. Chai, bolani, and aushak.

03.15 — Summer Hours Return
Weekday mornings start earlier again. Opening at 7am Monday–Friday.

03.20 — Thawing Out: Spring Equinox Stretch (5–9pm)
A deep stretch session with @liberation.lounge to welcome the new season.
Please bring a donation for the free pantry: canned food, menstrual products, diapers, wipes, or travel-size hygiene items.

03.21 — El Caribe Kickback Vol. 2 (7–10pm)
With @tio_delomio returns with new dishes, including Pasteles en Hoja with two fillings:
• Ropa Vieja — shredded beef with olives, capers, and agrodulce raisins
• Chana Dal — a fragrant vegan take with culantro and pimento allspice

OYE!!!!!!!!!!

Late post

I achieved a great personal milestone before leaving NYC to move to Detroit. Obtaining my brown belt at @kokushibudoinstitute . This place was truly my second home and my sanctuary! @judoshintaronyc took me in as a doe eyed youthful and angry spirit , eager to learn and willing to fight any challenge ahead of me. Him, @eugenenyc ,@kevin.m147 ,@lokke3 ,@chefmateonyc, @giannihallak , @gragin1 and everyone else who helped me all from the beginning of my journey in judo till now, youve all molded me to the judoka that i am today. Thank you to all the students in this amazing institution to have graced me with their presence and been amazing uke's in my route to understand the art of Judo. Also, for being able to cross paths with the love of my life @heypeach_ with her unwavering support we will continue to push our journey in life and judo into great heights.

Ive been having a tough time really getting this sport. Judo is hard, and ive been in my head and feeling like the progress has been stagnant. Thats life, right? One day ill look back and remember... it wasnt that bad, but right now.

The journey @kokushibudoinstitute has been a true story of my life. The amazing people I've met, the mentors, and the humble lessons along the way. Gaining my green belt feels very surreal under such a great teacher, and all i want to do is improve to make my sensei and all my peers proud. Thank you for gifting me with such a fulfilling life.
