Stop reaching into your blender to clean the blades. Let it clean itself: fill it about halfway with lukewarm water, add a couple drops of dish soap, put the lid on, and run it at full speed. Then rinse it out. Vitamix, Blendtec, and Ninja all recommend a version of this. Just go easy on the soap, or you'll turn it into a foam machine.

Can't read tiny print and forgot your reading glasses? Curl your index finger into a small pinhole, hold it up to the text, and look through it. Adjust the opening until the words come into focus. Eye doctors use a version of this in eye exams. If it still doesn't help, schedule an eye exam, because it could be a sign of cataracts or another eye issue.

Getting a key onto a split ring doesn't have to hurt your thumbnail. Cut about an inch off a drinking straw, feed it onto the ring, and slide the key right through the straw. If the key's hole is too small for a straw, use a thin coffee stirrer the same way. A staple remover works too, but it takes a steady hand and good eyesight.

One of the nastiest things in your hotel room is sitting right next to the bed: the TV remote. Everyone touches it and it rarely gets cleaned. Wipe it with a disinfecting wipe and let it stay wet for about four minutes so the disinfectant can work. And don't trust "antimicrobial" remotes. That coating doesn't work against every germ, including COVID and other viruses.

The fix is a family code word: if anyone calls with an emergency, ask for it. Make it memorable but not obvious, so skip pet names, birthdays, and anything on social media. Two viral 12-pack hacks, both worth doing. First, if you have vertical space but not horizontal, the box can be folded to stand upright. Skip breaking it over your knee and just cut along the fold line with scissors, then lift it open. Second, open both ends of the box, set it on the shelf, and push the cans straight through instead of pulling them out one at a time.
