I don’t know where to start.

Im so blessed to have killed the buck of a lifetime with my bow in Illinois. What a whirlwind of emotions and hunt. I’m beyond grateful. Grateful for this Buck, my family, all the friends especially @ashton.mallette and @5seasons_ficarra in my corner rooting me on, and mostly to the good Lord above.

We watched this 6 1/2 year old Buck we dubbed “Ice man” since early summer. Fast forward, got the intel and weather I needed and made a mad dash north from Mississippi to Illinois. My second sit this bruiser came in at 5:40 and, ironically, presented me with a 54 yard shot. The arrow found its mark. Big middle.

We gave it several hours to look at point of impact. When we did, we immediately found my arrow and good blood. We followed good blood for 100 yards or so until it looked like a bed but ended up being where he stopped for a moment. We made sure to play it safe, backed out and made the call to the legendary, Tracker John.

After a sleepless night we met him at the farm, and in short order, Jenna was on the trail and found him 75 yards from where we backed out. I would play it safe 10/10 times and I’m glad we did just in case.

We celebrated and deservedly so. A booner with my bow has been a bucket list dream for me and the Midwest grind can be a challenge, but one that is certainly worth it.

He grossed an amazing 178 7/8s. A buck of several lifetimes and one that has provided memories for the rest of mine.

These days, I truly get more enjoyment seeing others squeeze the trigger than myself. Especially a good friend and member of the Tenth Legion @_walker_davidson cross off another state and get a taste of these Mississippi ghosts.

After two tough days, we were rewarded with an intense textbook turkey hunt that ended at 7:26 am. Didn’t leave the trees we sat down on in the dark. A few bubble clucks and tree yelps led to a morning not soon forgotten.

Opening morning in Mississippi. If you’ve done it here, you know there’s no such thing as home field advantage, but play your cards right and sometimes it works out.

A long walk in we got to where we wanted to be. He burned it down on the limb and proceeded to gobble only a few more times on the ground. After a short game of cat and mouse, he slipped up and @ashton.mallette connected at 9:29. Mississippi gobbler down and memories made the way spring mornings are supposed to be. by @tj_mallette

And that’s a wrap for 2025. Another trip around the sun, and another year filled with core memories, adventures, and most of all time spent with the ones we love.

I am so thankful for this life I get to live and the year that just flew by. Making a living in the outdoors can be wild at times, but wouldn’t have it any other way. From the elk mountains to mallards in the flooded timber, there is nothing like adventure. After all is said and done, my favorite adventure is the one I get to live with my beautiful wife and baby boy.

This year will be tough to beat, but that’s the fun of it. We have another year of fun and adventures ahead, Lord willing.
