✌️ September 2026

Its taken a min to muster up the courage to look back at September. I feel like I lived a year in the span of 30 days.

The first Monday of the month I was at the vet for a yearly check up at the eve of #AdderSavage’s 18th birthday. She seemed her happy (crabby) and healthy self with years to go. She was diagnosed with early kidney disease and by Thursday she had a stroke.

Sunday the 6th we celebrated her birthday and by Labor Day Monday she was gone along with the last thing keeping me tied to Lincoln (or reality.)

The very next morning I was on a plane to Nashville to manage a tour and in two weeks put on 3,374 miles all over the east coast and Ontario. Nashville > Beloit > Minneapolis > Eau Claire > Port Huron > Toronto > Washington DC > Boston > Lexington > Nashville
No days off.

Ive been in the weirdest daze since I came home to an empty house and immediately began preparing to leave for another one. Meanwhile Ive had 2 of 3 Art Sales for @secretsocietsy and as many gigs with my sound system @ritualsoundlnk. No days off as they say and even less time to process a loss this profound and sudden. My best buddy. My child.

I never thought I would love another cat as much as my first. I missed Zero so much that I never took a minute of Adder’s life for granted.

Monday the 19th I leave for 2 months of tour beating my previous longest run by 2 weeks. Maybe I’ll be back in December…maybe not. The future, as Tom Petty so eloquently put it, is wide open.

It’s been so weird.

Big finish! Lotta miles, exhausted but its a livin’! I wouldn’t do it if’n I didn’t really love it even when its hectic and no days off. Had some great conversations over a limited amount of time with my tourmates and am grateful for the opportunity to step in and do my thing. No major issues, much success!

Huge shoutout to high school homie @zack_knudsen and Amanda for the cat time and hospitality when I got back to Nashville and found out my hotel was a crime scene.

I’ve got shows every day this week as well as an art sale on Sunday so here is part two of a quick recap of the last couple weeks TM’ing for @iamvwillz Eastern leg of the Long Story Short Tour with @adamyokum and @jgriff830

This was my quickest trip in and out of Canada but thankfully @houseofvintagetoronto was 3 blocks from the venue so I got to check in with my friend Dennis I met over a decade ago on a music video shoot I did when I was in a UK band.

I really feel a difference in temperament from the people in Canada. They really are a kinder sort and I always look forward to the next time I get to return. (Its the healthcare.)

Still on the plane heading “home” I put together this recap of the last couple weeks on the road Tour Managing for @iamvwillz for one leg of the Long Story Short Tour with @adamyokum and @jgriff830

I stepped in to help a good friend on this quick tour. From Sept 10 to 19 we did 5 shows hitting 17 states plus DC and Ontario burning up over 3,000 miles in a 15-passenger van!

The world is a dangerous place but thankfully there are Tim Horton’s and Wawa when you really need them.

I started my current running journey (obsession?) in 2023 at a low point in my health & life. I’d just gotten off a tour where I broke a few toes slipping on an icy lot in Utah. A gruesome story with colorful photos I tell ya… when I got home I told myself I was going to take better care of my health. Walking around with a hitch in my giddyup caused me to throw my back out for the first time and that was REALLY the wake up call. I had to have assistance even getting into the car to see a chiropractor!

Not too long after I’d moved into a new house in a quiet neighborhood and when I was healed enough to do so I started running for the first time OUTSIDE. For some reason that feels alien now I’d been a treadmill runner in my 20s - early 30s. I started slow outside and didn’t make it far until I felt like I was going to cough my lungs out. But each time I got out there I made it a little further & faster until I was able to look ahead to runs and push myself to reach better milestones. This happens quicker than you think until eventually I was doing 3 mile runs multiple times a week.

Fast forward to 2 years ago I heard about the @telegraphrunclub at @themillcoffeeandtea and found a group of fellow runners to keep pace with. We meet every Wednesday and unless I’m working a show or on tour I will always be there to participate in this community of almost 200 weekly runners.

Last week was the 2 year anniversary of the club and 12 year anniversary of Fleet Feet who organize this and many other satellite events in the Omaha/Lincoln communities. They often do giveaways & raffles and this time I was lucky enough to win a new pair of shoes!!

My first real investment pair of shoes back in 2023 were the Asics Novablast 3 (which shockingly still have a bit of life in them), I picked up the Novablast 5 last year and walked into Fleet Feet last week thinking I would almost assuredly upgrade to the Asics Superblast. But to my absolute shock after trying on a half dozen raceday shoes, Lori had me try the @nikerunning Vomero Premium. This shoe is an abomination of comfort and technology with a towering 55mm heel stack.

Come with me to work the 2 day festival that is @zoobarblues annual #ZooFest!

The Zoo Bar has been open since 1973 and is the premiere midwest blues bar expanding its performance range in recent years to play host to a variety of genres (full schedule online). Every July we close down 14th Street (renamed Boehmer Street for the Zoo’s late founder) and put on 2 days of music featuring a wide range of touring and local acts. This years performers included hard-working high-energy blues and soul from headliners Vanessa Collier and Sugarray Rayford, seasoned blues from the Texas Blues Guitar Summit, New Orleans roots rock from The Iguanas and the final performance from local rockabilly heroes The Mezcal Brothers featuring Dave Gonzalez from The Paladins filling in for late guitarist Benjie Kushner.

Regardless of the weather, Friday a warm but manageable overcast day and Saturday an outright scorcher, The Zoo Bar’s hardcore fanbase showed up to boogie. Sound duties for this event have been handled for years by Watts Systems so for this weekend I trade my ears for hands as Stage Manager making sure all acts had proper backline and that all things stage were taken care of so the artists could make their magic.

All that heat and activity and I still managed to put in a pre-festival run on Friday and a hot flow yoga on Saturday. Of course I have now earned my full vegetative state for Sunday.

All the bands were great to work with, the shows went smoothly, people danced, we had some tearful goodbyes and remembrances, and another legendary ZooFest is in the books!

Ugh so sick of this. Our friend Matt Bishop belonged to everyone. To know him was to love him. And to love him was to drive him home. And in exchange you always had a dance partner no matter the song, venue or situation. The more inappropriate song and situation, the better.

I would say he would take a bullet for his friends but Matt would have taken a bullet for an absolute stranger. I’ve seen him step in front of the biggest and baddest violent dive bar drunks with no regard for his own personal safety just to absorb the heat. He was an alien with a huge heart and neither Grand Island nor Lincoln will be the same. He will remain the heart and soul of every party. taken in Glass Bar by @tjroe
