The Source Speaks: GM J.C. Kim Meets the ITF Technical Committee

A rare and profoundly meaningful meeting took place between Grand Master J.C. Kim and the ITF Technical Committee: GM Hector Marano, GM Lan Ung, GM Jurek Jedut, GM Pierre Laquerre, GM Paul McPhail, and Master Virginia Dionisi in Benidorm, Spain.
The gathering was an exchange of knowledge on Taekwon-Do patterns, shared directly by one of the few remaining living links to the earliest development of the art. Grandmaster J.C. Kim worked closely with General Choi Hong Hi, the Founder of Taekwon-Do, and was appointed the ITF’s first Chief Instructor following the Federation’s founding in 1966.
As a founding member of the ITF and the first Chairman of its Technical Committee, Grandmaster Kim helped shape the technical foundations on which generations of practitioners have been trained. He also created the first International Instructors Course and played a central role in the early international expansion of Taekwon-Do.
For the members of the Technical Committee, the meeting offered more than historical insight. It was a living transmission of knowledge: the principles, details, and spirit behind the patterns, passed from a direct collaborator of General Choi to today’s leading technical authorities of the ITF.
This encounter honoured the continuity of Taekwon-Do — from its origins, through the vision of General Choi, to the instructors and masters who carry that legacy forward for future generations. by @tkdlive_pl

Filip Filippidis reads the exchange perfectly. As his opponent commits to a hand attack, Filipidis spots the opening between the attacking gloves — a narrow but decisive gap in the guard.
Instead of retreating, he closes the distance even further, slipping inside the opponent’s arms and pressing into the pocket just below the head. By doing so, he removes the opponent’s ability to reset the guard or generate a clean counter.
With the opponent’s head exposed and the line of attack now open, Filipidis creates the space he needs for a clean, direct strike to the head. It is a textbook example of timing, distance control, and fighting intelligence: not simply reacting to an attack, but turning the opponent’s forward pressure into an opening.
This is high-level sparring — reading the guard, entering at the exact moment of vulnerability, and finishing before the opponent can recover.

No sabía que animarme una vez más iba a ser todo lo que necesitaba en este momento. ❤️‍🔥

Me siento inmensamente feliz por haberme dado esta oportunidad. Y también por tomar verdadera dimensión del hermoso entorno que me acompaña día a día. Hoy reconozco que, en gran parte, fueron ellos quienes hicieron posible que yo estuviera ahí.

No es fácil volver a exponerse cuando tu enfoque está puesto en otra dirección. Pero no me arrepiento de absolutamente nada.

Claro que me hubiese encantado tener el control completo de mi performance y demostrar mucho más de lo que sé que puedo dar. Pero volver a competir, volver a pisar un ring central, verme parada al lado de quien para mí (y para el mundo) es una verdadera inspiración @silvia_farigu , y competir por primera vez en un escenario mundial en esta nueva categoría… hicieron que me temblara hasta el alma.

Volví a sentirme una novata. ☺️

Y, aunque parezca contradictorio, esa sensación fue hermosa. Porque me recordó lo que significa desafiarse, salir de lo conocido y volver a sentir esos nervios que aparecen cuando algo realmente nos importa.

Me dejó una vara altísima, un camino enorme por seguir recorriendo y, sobre todo, un entusiasmo que hacía tiempo no sentía por proponerme más y más objetivos.

Es tan, pero tan generoso el Taekwon-Do que nunca deja de sorprenderme. Y más aún, de llenarme de gratitud por cada una de las experiencias que me regala, esas que me ayudan a construirme, reconstruirme y seguir creciendo.

Hoy me quedo con la felicidad de haberme animado. Con la certeza de haber dado lo mejor de mí en ese momento y con unas ganas inmensas de seguir.

This is almost unbelievable news — but is it real?
It appears that Volume 3 of Taekwon-Do and I*, the final part of General Choi Hong Hi’s memoir trilogy, may finally be translated into English.
Written near the end of his life by the Founder of Taekwon-Do, this volume has been available only to Korean readers. But many questions remain:
* Is this translation authorized and accurate?
* Who actually owns the rights to Volume 3?
* For years, there was uncertainty about whether these writings even existed.
* The book GM George Vitale holds in the interview is one the world has not seen for 20 years.
* Why is an English translation possible now — when it was not possible before?
As one of the authors of the translation project says: “History must be complete.”
But before we celebrate, we need answers. If this truly is the missing final chapter of General Choi’s story, it deserves to be published with full transparency, respect for his legacy, and proper legal and editorial oversight.
