Each year at this time, the mopoke calls.
He called the year I met the man I married.
My heart. My heart. My heart.
Mopoke became our code word for love you.
He called the year my father died, as I lay on my bed and played Two Dots until my thumbs fell off and the backing music sounded like Nick Cave.
My heart. My heart. My heart.
I looked up the dreaming story about mopoke, expecting romance.
The mopoke, it turns out, the owl that calls through the first warm nights of the year, is an arsehole.
He makes things for himself and does not share. Not even when his family call him through the night.
He is punished by a flood. Waters rise and soak his rugs and his wooden tools and they rot
My things. My things. My things.
I seem to be a little bit in love, in the season where the mopoke calls in the night.
There he is again.
Old trickster Mopoke.

I named my son Joseph after an ancestor known as “Sporting Joe Teek”….I didn’t really do the research. Sporting Joe had a good time, he was a good sort, and he gave away a farm that had been home to the family since the Doomsday Book. I am not sporty but I do aspire to being sport-ing. You should too. by @tladytallangatta

I have sensory issues that only allow me to wear natural fibres….unless the polyester comes in the form of a two dollar floor length Marina Abramovic-esque gown with covered buttons hot fron Tallangatta Op Shop. Then I am entirely willing to die for the cause. The correct cocktail for this would have been a Widow Maker, but I was lizard mouth damaged by a staff party farewell in Wodonga and a long shift as Bain Marie Bitch. A lot of mineral water went under the bridge. Quite liking my life at the moment. by @tladytallangatta

Brassaï - Couple of Lovers in a Small Café in Place d’Italie, c. 1932

I did therapy in wodonga for a bit.
The psychologist to end all psychologists was a good one.
I got better, she got dishevelled.
Hair in a birds nest, band aids on her cheek. I internalised her eye roll - before attempting anything clinically inappropriate I would imagine her response.
At our last session, she rolled her eyes and said;
“Look Charlotte we all know that you could only really be at home in 1930s Paris but we are going to have to come to terms with the fact that we are in Wodonga”
I ran into her in a cafe a few weeks later. We had coffee.
Then she got divorced and went to Paris. by @tladytallangatta
