Pula Investment Conference 2025

There’s something deeply fulfilling about holding space for the kinds of dialogues where vision meets tangible action. Moderating at the Pula Investment Conference was exactly that. And it reminded me why I love this work (which began with the Campfire Chats Instagram Lives) of leading substantive conversations that bring together leaders, entrepreneurs, and visionaries who are building a sustainable future for Africa.

Here’s to full circle moments that stay with us long after the day has passed 🥂

📹: @brianmabua thank you for capturing these beautiful moments.

I almost missed the opening session by Professor Arthur Mutambara, someone I consider as a thought leader and a pragmatic voice in the topic of AI in Africa. Ironically he and I had both missed the last connecting flight from Nairobi to Mombasa because of flight delays and reschedules. Quite frankly a fitting reminder that even as we discuss Africa’s AI future- our infrastructure still dictates our momentum…and a small travel chaos that would set the tone for a powerful conversation on “The Dual Reality of AI in Africa: The Promise of Inclusive Innovation and the Risk of Deepening Inequality.”

Did you know that affirmations are micro-commitments that recalibrate your mind toward possibility, confidence, and intentional living (and are more than just feel-good phrases)? Every time we speak words that honour who we are becoming, we strengthen the internal atmosphere that shapes our choices, our energy, and our impact.

As a modern day renaissance individual building, creating, leading, and dreaming across different domains, I have learned that words truly set the tone for evolution. And the stories we tell ourselves either expand or limit us. So in 2026 we are choosing language that elevates our courage and honours our calling.

I am sharing of some of my current favourite affirmations in this season. I hope that these speak to you who is navigating multiple lanes, carrying big dreams, or shaping your identity with intention.

Save this for the days when you need a reminder that you are allowed to evolve, expand, and to take up the fullness of your brilliance. ✨

This week, I join other African thinkers and leaders @mindsafrica ’s Intergenerational Dialogue in Mombasa Kenya, where I will speak on the topic: The Dual Reality of Al in Africa: The Promise of Inclusive Innovation and the Risks of Deepening Inequality.

I look forward to engaging with Prof. Arthur Mutambara, whose book, insights and commentary continue to shape my understanding of this field and more broadly Africa’s unfolding Al story.

I bring a pragmatic voice to the Al conversation, and I will be unpacking both sides of this dual reality, including thoughts such as:

1. Al is no longer a distant concept; it is becoming part of Africa’s development story.

2. Africa’s real opportunity lies in building inclusive innovation, technology shaped by our context, languages, and lived experiences.

3. Africa holds leverage at the source, owning much of the rare earth minerals that power global Al systems.

4. Without intentional action - at personal, community, national and continental levels, Al could deepen existing inequalities between those with access, resources, and digital skills, and those without.

5. We have the chance to define what responsible and inclusive Al looks like before it is defined for us.

And more!

But beyond any dialogue or conference stage, this is a conversation that belongs everywhere from classrooms to boardrooms, industries to policy spaces.

Here’s how I would answer Mary Oliver’s famous question…“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

1. To find opportunities to pour into others the very support, direction, and affirmation I once wished existed for me.
2. To partner with those that shape, create access, expand possibility, and build Africa’s emerging leaders.
3. To design spaces that unlocks potential, creates pathways, and builds the kind of support ecosystem for those that need it most.
4. To shape platforms that uplift potential and cultivate individuals who walk with clarity and conviction.

Here is to full-circle moments that speaks to purpose maturing over time and returning with greater responsibility.

Im curious to know, how would you answer Mary Oliver’s question on this last month of 2025? by @tloco_k

We re-imaged what the next decade of Botswana’s growth could look like…

What an honour to have moderated a panel discussion at the PULA INVESTMENT CONFERENCE during the ongoing 2025 Botswana Global Expo.

Under 1 critical theme of unlocking Green Investment opportunities, the dialogue brought together three powerful and deeply connected lenses; sustainable tourism, smart cities and environmental management.

The inclusion of Al and emerging technologies in the conversation was timely, particularly in emerging tourism opportunities such as Smart Cities.

Each of the panelists brought a distinct perspective that together painted a fuller picture of what a sustainable and competitive Botswana looks like.

1. Mr Tadios Belete, Founder of Boston Partners PLC & CEO of @kr_bishoftu Resorts and Spa 🇪🇹
2. Ms Keitumetse Setlang, CEO at Botswana Tourism Organisation
3. Mr. Kabelo Binns, Board Chairperson at Wilderness Botswana
4. Mr. Tebogo Boalotswe, Sustainability Executive at Natural Selection Safaris
5. Mr. Ratanang Tsayang, Founder Xaoo Safari Camp

Grateful to play a part in conversations shaping the future of Botswana’s growth story. Thank you Botswana Investment and Trade Centre for trusting me with your platform @gobotswana1

📌Have you ever noticed how self doubt shows up right when you step into something new?

It does not arrive because you are incapable. It arrives because the familiar version of you is being left behind. There is a pause where who you were no longer fits, and who you are becoming has not fully settled yet. In that in between space, doubt speaks up. Not to stop you, but to let you know you are adjusting to a bigger identity. Growth often feels like this, unfamiliar, slightly uncomfortable, and deeply human.

How do you usually interpret this feeling? As a warning or an invitation to step forward anyway?

📌The biggest barrier to your next chapter is often the identity that carried you through the last one.

What once protected you, defined you, or gave you credibility can quietly limit your growth if you cling to it too tightly. New chapters ask for updated self perception, new language, and different behaviors. Individuals who evolve well know when to honor who they were and release it, making space for who they are becoming next.

What’s your biggest barrier to your becoming?

What if starting again is not failure, but leadership in motion?

A new start is never a return to zero, but a return with memory, insight, and perspective. You do not come back empty handed, you come back carrying what worked, what did not, and what you now understand about yourself.

Leaders do not evolve by clinging to old versions of themselves. They evolve through recalibration. They pause, reassess, and realign their direction with who they have become.

Identify one area of your life or leadership that needs recalibration. Release the old strategy and choose a wiser one for the season you are in now.

Share this with someone who is in their recalibration season 📌✨

Did you know that feeling left behind often comes from measuring yourself against someone else’s timeline?

But real advancement is not about how fast you move, it is about whether your movement is aligned with who you are becoming. Some phases are for laying foundations, others for visible expansion. Both are necessary, and neither is late. Strong leaders do not chase urgency, they follow timing that fits their path.

📌 Take time to release borrowed deadlines. Define what meaningful forward movement looks like for you in this season, then commit to that pace with intention.

What kind of future is your current lifestyle quietly building?

Your daily choices are already voting on where your life is headed. Growth is unlocked by upgrading your standards. Stronger discipline, better circles, and deeper self respect. It is choosing environments that stretch you, routines that sharpen you, and behaviors that match where you are going, not where you have been.

Take a moment to audit your lifestyle this season. Change one habit, one influence, and one standard that no longer fits the future you say you want.

Save for later and share this with someone in need of an intentional lifestyle upgrade.

Do you know that the idea that you must choose a single path or narrow lane is outdated?

As a renaissance individual with multiple skills, interest and talents, you build strength by combining disciplines. When you integrate multiple skills and perspectives, you see patterns others miss, connect ideas faster, and solve problems more creatively.

This is not lack of focus, it is strategic range that helps you to move between strategy and execution, vision and detail, people and systems. You are adaptable in uncertainty and valuable in transition.

If this resonates save it and share it with someone who is building a portfolio career and trying to find their feet in varying domains.
