*Volume 1, Issue 1: "Elections Have Consequences"*
### **From Careers to Taxes: The Generational Shift**
Our grandparents had **careers**—stable, lifelong work with pensions and benefits. Our parents had **jobs**—less secure, but still enough to buy homes and raise families. Now, we have **taxes**—rising costs, stagnant wages, and a system that feels rigged against us.

- **Wages vs. Inflation**: Wages haven’t kept pace with inflation for decades. The cost of housing, healthcare, and education has skyrocketed, while paychecks have barely budged.
- **The Housing Paradox**: You can’t afford rent, but you also don’t qualify for a mortgage. The dream of homeownership feels further out of reach than ever.

This isn’t just bad luck—it’s the result of policy decisions. And those decisions are made by people we elect.

### **Elections Have Consequences**
From the **dog catcher** to the **president**, every elected official shapes our lives. They decide:
- **Tax policies**: Who pays, and how much.
- **Minimum wage**: Whether it’s a living wage or a poverty wage.
- **Housing regulations**: Whether developers build luxury condos or affordable housing.
- **Student loans**: Whether education is a ladder up or a ball and chain.

If you’re frustrated with the system, remember: **voting is the first step to changing it.**

### **Stand Up and Do Something**
1. **Vote in Every Election**: Local, state, and federal. School boards, city councils, and state legislatures make decisions that impact your daily life.
2. **Hold Leaders Accountable**: Attend town halls, write letters, and demand answers.
3. **Get Involved**: Join organizations like the League of Urban Culture to advocate for policies that benefit working people.
4. **Educate Others**: Share this newsletter. Talk to your friends and family about why elections matter.

### **The Bottom Line**
We’re living in a system that wasn’t designed for us. But we have the power to change it. **Stand up. Speak out. Vote.** Because elections have consequences—and those consequences shape our lives. by @tlouc__
