Spectacular road trip along the #goldencircle #iceland. Fun facts:
Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park: The only site above sea level where you can walk inside a rift valley between the two continental plates. The plates separate here by roughly 2 cm (0.78 inches) per year. Strokkur is a geyser located in the Geysir Geothermal Area in Haukadalur Valley, one of the main highlights of Golden Circle tours. It erupts every 6 to 10 minutes, shooting boiling water 49 to 66 feet (15 to 20 meters) into the air. Located on the Golden Circle, Fridheimar is Iceland’s most unique tomato farm, offering lunch right in the greenhouse. Sit down to a feast of tomato soup served with freshly baked bread and cucumber salsa. The Gullfoss Waterfall is fed by the powerful Hvita River, which originates from the Langjokull Glacier. The water flows through Iceland’s rugged landscape before dramatically plunging over the two-tiered cascade. Kerið, a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area in south Iceland, is one of the most visually stunning geological wonders in the country. This vibrant blue gem, which is part of the Western Volcanic Zone that includes the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull Glacier, is a mere 6,500 years old – making it one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters in Iceland. The caldera is approximately 55 m deep, 170 m wide, and 270 m across, and is made up of a unique red volcanic rock. by @tlp67
