Almost 8 months ago I set off on my own #odyssey of sorts with no pre-conceived notions of where the journey would take me. I was feeling complacent and made a decision to try something that would push me far beyond the boundaries of my comfort zone. I have struggled with social anxiety for as long as I can remember. While I have learned to manage the normal day to day interactions, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to navigate the intensity of performing. Putting myself on display, being seen, exposed, vulnerable…it terrified me to my core. So I knew for that reason alone I had to pursue it. I never want fear to define or control me.

Opening the door of my car to walk in to the first improv class took a lot of deep breathing. It was one of the most impactful decisions I have ever made in my life. I never could have dreamed I could have walked on stage and performed in front of hundreds of people, much less not even knowing what I was performing. This entire experience has been transformative for me.

Thank you to @dadsgarageatl @dgstuds for the amazing educational opportunities you provide to the Atlanta community. Thank you to the supportive community you foster that makes it feel like it’s ok to fail forward.

Thank you to my teachers, @swiftrice , @carson.seabolt and @azsnowden . Thank you for your time, your knowledge, your expertise and wisdom but most of all for sharing your own experience and vulnerability. I work in a field that can sometimes feel very thankless and I wonder if I’m making a difference in people’s lives. You do and you are. My life has been changed forever because of your contribution to it and words could never express my gratitude.
