My last day @wfaa was unbelievably special… 😭

A massive LED display. A camera signed by our photographers. A frame filled with messages from the team. My favorite gelato cakes. The sweetest cards and gifts. The kindest words. The warmest hugs. The teariest goodbyes.

AAJA Member of the Year??? 🥹 Pinch me.

13 years ago, I found my first job and some of my closest friends at AAJA 2013 in New York. I was amazed by the Asian American journalists and representation around me.

I never imagined I’d walk the gala stage to accept such a high honor. As I sit at the Minneapolis airport, rushing back to Dallas for our going away party after a 20-hour trip… I smile at the timing.

What a way to close out my time in Texas, where I’ve served as @aajatexas chapter co-president for 8 years. And what a way to start a new adventure — home in San Francisco, where convention will be next year!!!

Truly, thank you to the National Governing Board for selecting me as the Asian American Journalists Association 2026 Member of the Year. Dear Dallas,

We’ve built a really beautiful life here.

As each of the last eight years passed, we thought more and more this would be our forever home.

So it’s unbelievably hard to write this note.

My last day at WFAA will be July 1st. And we will leave Texas shortly after.

When we first moved here, I couldn’t believe I was taking a big market news job. In my 20s, I was the youngest reporter in this legendary newsroom. I felt and STILL feel so lucky to be surrounded by the best storytellers in the country at WFAA. I feel even luckier to call those coworkers my chosen family. They fueled my already fiery passion for journalism, all while supporting me through life’s best and worst moments. This kind of love is irreplaceable.

Dallas is where we bought our first home in the bustling Oak Lawn with our two dogs, Suki and Bacon. Then as our family grew, we were so lucky to find our second home. I planned and pictured a whole life, raising our son in our very special Dallas neighborhood. I imagined more game nights, bike rides, evening walks, sports games, mom dinners… the whole suburban mom life.

I grew to love this city because of the people who surround our family. From my colleagues in news, to old school friends, daycare friends, neighborhood friends, gym friends, to the friends I met on stories and more — you became our village.

It’s what makes leaving difficult beyond words.

We are leaving a place that gave us some of life‘s best memories. Ultimately, Dallas is where I became the most important version of me… as Cal’s mom. And it makes us so emotional to pull him away from the only home he’s ever known.

This city will always have such a special place in our hearts. We will leave with tremendous love and gratitude.

Thank you for the moments, for the milestones.

My 6th year teaching at NPPA’s Advanced Storytelling Workshop in beautiful ColoRADo. Seriously incredible cohort - people from so many backgrounds and places!!! And as always - I love learning from my fellow faculty.
